The thing that clinched my decision to purchase the polks was that their sound was the closest to my previous speakers during auditions; the longer that I listen to them; the more dissatisfied I become!... Same music, same room, similar positions;
The polks exhibit a lot less apparent phantom center channel... I never felt the need for a center channel speaker with the previous speakers
The polks suck the power (resulting in an auxiliary main L&R power amp so they now sound better).. can no longer fault the bottom end.
... still don't like the tweeters; may try adding some damping around them.... perhaps a pair of the (above) mono converters added to the spikes on the Ring tweeters... (I am serious)... do they still sell NERF balls? I could cut one in half...

Enjoy!
I hear you. I auditioned the R700s. I loved the bass. Their X-Port sounded great without any bloom or high room gain when placed close to the front and side walls. I didn’t think the tweeter was all that great. Sounded neutral but not exciting. That may be the Polk sound according to the dealer I spoke with. They were a great deal at the time but stepped up in price and got the sound I wanted. I powered them with my Rotel amp that puts out 350 WPC into 4 ohms which drove them more than loud enough without distortion or strain in my medium sized room.

I just got this on vinyl in the mail today from a seller in Armenia shipped via Russia. Couldn't be more pleased. Described as VG+, but it's better. Never played, no marks, no spindle trails. Same as the cover. This was never issued in the USA on vinyl, only in Europe. Had a search on for it for a couple years. Playing it now and it is dead quiet. It was only slightly spendy. Not outrageous for something you really want to add to your collection. The title track, "Door into Summer" is a very good cover of a Monkees tune.

My favorite pickup in Nashville this week. Got home to the latest Dave’s Picks in the mail. Grateful indeed.

I can't wait for that ahole Trump's term to finish so we can mend relations between Canada and the US. I love single malt Scotch and Bourbon. I bought three bottles of Bourbon to hold me over until relations warm up again and Bourbon starts to show up in our liquor stores again.

AH article on it. The more likely explanation is the perceived change is related to your listening, not the speaker. You become "used to" the sound of the speaker, so technically, your ears break in :)

$100? :D Buy 2 for mute.
Floyd Toole says the same thing in his book ...

I hear you. I love visiting Canada. Planning on a few days in Vancouver before we cruise Alaska. Friday is a good day to have a scotch or bourbon. Cheers mate!

Received my new SVS Ultra Evolution center channel speaker yesterday afternoon;
svs center channel.jpg

An unlooked for benefit was that it made me aware of a high end hole in my sound stage; by filling it in with music.

The diamond coated aluminum dome tweeter is good (not too bright or forward, It sounds more like a Peerless tweeter than a Seas tweeter (Seas tweeters tend to sound a bit bright, to me)). The mid-range speaker was working but, seemingly, invisible (a good thing).
The 6.5 inch woofers integrated well with the mid-range sound of the r700s.
overall it helped the high end smoothness allowing the sound of plucked guitar strings and small bells/triangles to be better perceived. ...It did its job of filling in the sound stage.

It was not a night and day difference, but an incremental improvement in my sound.
I did not rerun the room equalization, (I will probably do that today) (I set the center level by ear (with my eyes shut then looked and its level was +1.5db); ...I was anxious to hear the speaker.

Overall; I class this addition a success and at this point (Its still early) feel that I can recommend this 3-way center channel speaker.
... more movie listening, will determine if/how much it helps dialogue clarity ...

Enjoy!
