Updating the receiver will result in no audible improvements to the receiver. So, you may just leave it alone.

Out of curiosity:
in Onkyo Menu, even if I choose 4.1 the music always comes out only from the 2 front speakers and the subwoofer. Why? Maybe because it is configured in Stereo? If instead I choose Dolby Surround or AllCH Stereo the music also comes out of the rear speakers.

When the sound mode is set to STEREO, sound will only be output from the Front speakers and the Subwoofer when playing two channel signals. Selecting AllCH Stereo will output the same sound from all speakers but selecting Dolby Surround or DTS Neo:6 will steer dialogue to the Front Speakers in a 4.1 configuration and steer the dialogue to the Center Channel Speaker in a 5.1 configuration when playing two channel signals.

Anyway I don't like Dolby Surround because there are a lot of Bass. I don't know DTS Neo:6.

Press the MOVIE/TV button on the remote controller repeatedly to switch the sound mode from Dolby Surround to DTS Neo:6 and other up mixers.
