I watched Dunkirk 4k Blu Ray last night. It was a good movie, with a very effective, foreboding buildup during the first part of the movie.

I’ll admit that I have a hard time watching well made historical movies at times. When I was growing up I heard a lot of stories about what life was like for my father’s family during the German occupation. Even though I didn’t experience it myself, WW2 movies in particular tend to make me think about the realities that inspired the movie.

On a lighter note, the Blu Ray and Dolby Vision provided very good picture quality on my LG C4. I don’t completely trust my own perceptions of picture quality because I’m sure I have some confirmation bias, but I tend to think that Dolby Vision made a difference in this movie

The system I watched it on has two SVS PC-2000 Pro subs. As far as I can tell they did well with the special effects in this movie. Having said that, it’s entirely possible that the soundtrack has quite a bit of lower frequency content that the subs didn’t reproduce so I’m not 100% sure how they did

Edit: My TV displayed "Dolby Vision" when I first started watching the movie but it turns out that the Blu Ray itself is HDR10, not Dolby Vision. My LG C4 and OPPO UDP-203 Blue Ray player are apparently both capable of mapping HDR10 to DV. Right now, I'm not sure if it was the TV or the UDP-203 that was mapping to DV, and I'm really not sure how much difference it makes.

Last night, I started season 2 of "The Fallout" with episode 1. I also watched episodes 1 and 2 of season 3 of "The Diplomat" .

I finished a run through the Lord of the Rings trilogy (extended) Monday evening. It had been a few years. I forgot how good they look in their UHD versions.

Sorry, no pictures to scroll through, for waste of time. I am looking at the earlier Transformer movies, with Dolby Vision and DD Atmos. Next on the list and saved, are the Terminator movies, in Dolby Vision. I have "Gone With the Wind," on the save list too. Maybe time to start watching some old classics?

I really wanted to like Dunkirk, and mostly did. But, the soundtrack was my issue. It sounded like all my speakers were blown. Oddly enough it won some sound design awards. This was reported to be intentional, and I actually saw where someone measured the track, and found the signals were clipped, pretty badly. Christopher Nolan annoys me because he makes great films, but stubbornly refuses to use atmos. Then we have films like Dunkirk with this unusual track. I hated it, others love it. Oh well. He does have a history of such. Tenet, interstellar, The dark knight rises etc.

Watched Jurassic world dominion, and rebirth. Was really disappointed in the animals. To me, the close ups were definitely better than the wide shots. But Peter Jackson’s King Kong from 2005 is better. Even the original JP. I think this is a product of farming out the animation.
Saw avatar 3 in the theater(looking forward to home release) and thought it looked spectacular. Good soundtrack too.
