I watched Dunkirk 4k Blu Ray last night. It was a good movie, with a very effective, foreboding buildup during the first part of the movie.

I’ll admit that I have a hard time watching well made historical movies at times. When I was growing up I heard a lot of stories about what life was like for my father’s family during the German occupation. Even though I didn’t experience it myself, WW2 movies in particular tend to make me think about the realities that inspired the movie.

On a lighter note, the Blu Ray and Dolby Vision provided very good picture quality on my LG C4. I don’t completely trust my own perceptions of picture quality because I’m sure I have some confirmation bias, but I tend to think that Dolby Vision made a difference in this movie

The system I watched it on has two SVS PC-2000 Pro subs. As far as I can tell they did well with the special effects in this movie. Having said that, it’s entirely possible that the soundtrack has quite a bit of lower frequency content that the subs didn’t reproduce so I’m not 100% sure how they did

Edit: My TV displayed "Dolby Vision" when I first started watching the movie but it turns out that the Blu Ray itself is HDR10, not Dolby Vision. My LG C4 and OPPO UDP-203 Blue Ray player are apparently both capable of mapping HDR10 to DV. Right now, I'm not sure if it was the TV or the UDP-203 that was mapping to DV, and I'm really not sure how much difference it makes.
