Hi, just picked up a Denon DM35DAB mini system and looking for some speakers to go with it. Didn't fancy much Denon's own but have seen some of the Evo 8's on sale from £249 to £149 and wondering if anyone has had any experience of these speakers that could let me know (good or bad). Not used any Wharfedale's before so this is a new area for me. Any help is much appreciated.

No not at all, recommended i take it? What sort of dimensions are we talking about, fairly small like the Evo 8's? Also what kind of price do they go for these days??

Just having a look around and the diamond 9's are around £99 per pair and the diamond 9.1's are around £180 a pair. What's the difference between the 9 and 9.1 version? Would these be better than the Evo's? Phew-ee!

I was actually thinking about the 9.6's. They go for about $1,000 per pair.

The Diamond 8 and 9 have received pretty good reviews. Do a search on the net. I am not a fan of small bookshelves in general. So I usually go for the big full range floorstanders.:D

Mightily impressive looking speakers although for my use with this hi-fi i'm really looking to get hold of something a tad smaller. Anyone used these??

The Wharfedale evos are a step up from the Diamonds, althought the diamond 9's are newer speakers than the evos. The evos have wood veneer while the diamonds have vinyl. I believe the cabinets are similar, but some of the driver technologies are different. Some of the higher level Diamonds seem to share more with the top-flite Wharfedale Opus than the Evos.

Reviews seemto be pretty good on all of Wharfedale speakers. The evos aren't around much in the states. I will be interested in what you decide to do, and how you like them.

Evo2 is out and the Evo is discontinued, which presents a problem as I was looking for Evo 8s to complete my set of Center and Rear Evo's.

I found some available at AYSE for $337.50. Haven't found any better prices. I'm matching them with other Evos for 7.1 setup.

I can't imagine anything better for the price. If you want to pay more though, there's plenty to choose from. Evo2 8 runs for $740 at Wildwest. Not sure it's worth paying more than twice as much. The new Opus2 line will have bookselves that will probably be over $1,500.

I'm currently having 2 Wharfedale 9.1's and for that small price (179 euros) the sound is amazing!

Just thought I'd give a heads up that the Evo 8 is available for $288 on eBay, auction ending March 28. It's the same seller that I bought my Evo 20s from a couple weeks ago. They shipped quickly, and speakers were new, never taken out of the box. I decided to get the 20 instead of 8 to use as side surrounds. They'll have a nicer range and better complement the Opus fronts and center once I upgrade. Plus I don't have to buy stands.

AYSE sold out of the old Evo series, but now offers the Evo2 series, still about 44% less than list price. The Evo2 8 is $463.
