A good tt or arm wouldn't mind, wouldn't even notice. Might not want to use your best cartridge.
A secondary headshell/cart is a little problematic, unless you get them to weigh the exact same. I did that once with my Pioneer DD tt about 45 years ago. I super glued tiny plastic washers to the top of one and then they weighed the exact same.

I would not bother. There is zero pleasure in playing discs in poor condition I would imagine, and it just invites trouble. I don't have any that fit that description.

I said Pioneer. I meant Technics.
But no, I'm not doing that. Just saying they should weigh the same if you did. The reason I did that was because friends brought records over back then and I wanted a cart exclusively for my albums. See, there was a good reason. ha.

Weight isn't the only dimension that is relevant when swapping cartridges.....and most good arms come with a fairly quick way to adjust for weight. Height, not so much.

Seriously, I have no life.

Or, re-balance it when you change cartridges. The problem with adding weight is in the location- less at the headshell reduces the 'weight on a stick' situation. Think of it in terms of heavy rims vs lightweight rims.

I should clarify: It's no big deal to switch headshells and change the tracking weight, especially on most tonearms. I am referring to a temporary switch, like for one or two LP's, then go back. Still, not a big deal unless you have a tonearm like mine (SME 3009 Series II) where it is a tad more cumbersome to change weights. I mean, of course you could do it, but not really worth the hassle.
