The things I gained by upgrading my AVR:

1. New codecs
2. Clean wire management
3. Sliders I put under my Credenza

The things I lost by upgrading my AVR

1. Control of 12v trigger
2. Ability to see the volume
3. 1200 bucks

I don't know, they have survived 60 years so far with that website.
Wow your dealer really carries quite a line of products. Too bad his website is ugly. Maybe I could do some work for them and we could get some deals.:D

Yeah, most of that without a website, too. But, adapt or die, as they say. Get them to hire Craig...then they might sell you something with a display that you can read. :)

Greg not sure what info your looking for here... but you PM'd about the Pioneer Elite and 12v trigger? The elites have the option for when you set up the speakers, and inputs... it will ask you how you want the 12v trigger to react when you use certain speakers, if you want the amp to come on with the main speakers(on), if you don't want the amp to come on with the mains (off) if you want to run zone 2( zone2) which will not turn on the 12v trigger...

I had problems with this when I first got my Pioneer Elites, I couldn't get the external amp to turn on.... No sound.... took me a while to figure it out

Get the manual out, and it half @$$ explains it, but its in there...

Its been a while, but I think that is correct, but I can double check when I get home if need be...

Thanks man!

Ok guys, when we start talking the video end of this, I don't know much about it as I have never ran A&V together.

When Highlander says "You are not scaling so it should not really matter that much for you. You mitsu will probably do as good a job as most of these receivers". What does it mean. Should I just be using pass-through on the AVR or is he just saying that the AVR and the Display are both 1080 so it doesn't matter?

You already have highdef sources. HD sat and PS3. You don't have an SD source that needs to be scaled from 480i/480p up to the 1080p that your TV displays. Granted your sat box is doing 720p or 1080i but I'm sure your tv will do as good a job as the receiver to deinterlace or scale to 1080p.

So you want something that will passthrough the signal untouched. I have SD so I need the great REON chip I have because it will do a better job than my tv to scale from 480p to 1080p.

Does that make more sense?

You really on drink one? I am staying sober until dark so I can use my DVE and do my calibration. I have just scanned through it and it doesnt seem to tell you what you should be adjusting when it puts up the test patterens. I have only used Avia so I am not used to that.

Your explanation was good on scaling but I still dont understand if I should leave my 3800 on 1080p or change it to pass through.

Its 5:40 for me.:)

Oh yes, sobriety for that would be a must but have drinks ready so when you get too frustrated you have the drink handy.

I would do pass through on yours. What is happening now is that your 1080p signal is being processed by your 3800 which I don't think you want to happen. I want to find a recent article I read and it tested several receivers video processing and I don't remember if the 3800 was one of them or not. I will find it.

Ok I found the article and I don't have good news on the video side:

Link The RX-V3800 is similar to most of the other AVRs in that it does not offer video processing of digital input signals. The digital input is ostensibly passed through without any video processing. But if that’s the case, the HDMI transmitter chip seems to be affecting the dynamic range of the image. Below-black and above-white information are being clipped from the video signal. We’ve seen this issue before with certain HDMI transmitter chips, so it is unclear whether the problem should be addressed at the video-processing level or the chip.
The RX-V3800 is advertised to include Anchor Bay’s ABT-1010 video-scaling solution, but the digital inputs weren’t being scaled. The analog side did offer scaling, though, and the results were pretty good. We did see a slight amount of ringing in our resolution charts and a hint of noise with both our luma and chroma tests, but all of the resolution was there. The analog inputs offered video processing of SD signals to HD resolutions, including deinterlacing 480i video. It is unclear what solution Yamaha is using for their deinterlacing, but it would only handle film-based material properly and not 480i video-based material.
Surprisingly, there was absolutely no processing for HD signals at all. Even with analog sources, the AVR would simply pass the video through. This is better than applying a video solution that cannot handle a 1080i source properly, but we would still like to see receivers move toward solutions that can at least deinterlace 1080i to 1080p now that there is so much 1080i broadcast HD out there.

Greg, it's time to also go Pure Direct on your video - just like me. :D The cable running up the back wall is going to my Channel Master 4228 that's currently mounted on the shelf above (out of site in the photo). Pure signal to the TV, my man. It's the only way to fly.

By saying I like how ICE amps sound, I just mean the name!
Thanks, brother! Could you make it cash, though? The local grocery store gives me all kinds of grief when I try to use my stamps for booze.

IMO, an excellent choice.

Well there you go. Besides I find ice to be very important when doing one of our other favorite passtimes.:D

Now you can tell your friends. I don't just use ice to keep your drinks cool it keeps my system cool as well.

Opps gotta cut out for a bit. I have to go to a friends house to give his diabetic cat a shot. And I'm not kidding. Fortunately I only had the one beverage.
