1. Although this wasn't a choice provided, I look to Professional Reviews first. Then, Consumer reviews, followed by Price, and last; the Warranty
2. Never used Fluance speakers, but have heard them compared to Polk Audio.

Shopping for speakers online is a combination of all of these. The one that you left out and is probably most important is the ability to audition the speakers in your room with your equipment and return them if you don't like them. Companies, like Aperion, who pay for shipping both ways understand the draw of this feature of online audio shopping.

I have never heard Fluance speakers.

I have owned or currently own Klipsch, Boston Acoustics, Polk, Axiom Audio, Swan, Ascend Acoustics, and Energy speakers. I have familiarity through friends and family with Paradigm and Bose.

1.) I would have to say Consumer Reviews. If no one likes them because they sound horrible, I don't care how good the price is.

2.) I've never heard Fluance speakers in person, but if I had to guess from what others have said about them, I would say Jamo.

I have never used Fluance speakers

Infinity and Polk, But I like My Fluance better. The ones I own are discontinued, but I've had them for over 5 years. They are the SM 938's. I have bought a pair of Paradigm Monitor 11's and I must say that I like the Fluance just as much!
