And what's the relevance to title of this thread?
You made me do it...

Wikipedia said:
The English name of Vienna, the official German name Wien, and the names of the city in most languages, are thought to be derived from the Celtic name of a settlement, but opinions vary on the precise origin. Some claim that the name comes from Vedunia, meaning "forest stream," which subsequently became Venia, Wienne and Wien. Others claim that the name comes from the name of the Roman settlement Vindobona, probably meaning "white base/bottom," which became Vindovina, Vídeň (Czech) and Wien.[9]
Now unless I'm mistaken, she's got one of those ;)

... we have the "boring" thread for this stuff :p
Fine, let's get back to talking about Beč Zvuk. :)

Let's talk about prices in US dollars and why are the prices not right out in the open. What do the Mozart Grands normally go for? I take it the Musics go for 27G?

Here's an interesting article that mentions Patrick Butler and talks about how this is really an Italian speaker. I wonder where the drivers are made ... Portugal? :D

The BB guy told me that they were going to stop carrying VA because the distributorship was switching hands to their in house deal run by Patrick and it takes close to a year to hammer out the contractual terms.

Sorry about jacking your thread but that girls pic was used in a VA review as she is the vocal artist used by some reviewer. The pic turned up in an image search for Vienna Acoustics Music ... I just double checked that and my monkey tongue from post #14 shows up too! :D

I can't believe you still want to discuss speakers when I present you girls and monkey tongue.

Always interesting to see in which direction your posts go Alex ;)

Most of the VA drivers are sourced from German manufacturer Eton, some of the drivers... they claim that diaphragms are made by VA and then shipped to Eton assembly, I definitely believe they used some Seas drivers too... as a Norwegian I should know more about that..... :p

Prices are very out in the open here in Norway, wonder why there's any secrecy about this overseas

Over here it's as this:
The Music: $30k
The Kiss: $15.3k
Mahler: $13k
Bethooven Concdert Grand: $6.6k
Beethoven Baby Grand: $ 5.2k
Mozart Grand: $ 3.5k
Bach Grand $2.6k
Haydn Grand: $1.7k
Principal grand: $3.3k

Nice photos!

Just to illuminate a few points that you made, our cabinets are made in Northern Italy, but our speakers are made in Vienna. Drivers come from various sources. Our X3P cones are cast in Austria and then built up into drivers in Northern Europe (Eton, Seas, Scanspeak.) All of the drivers are custom. Prices? They are readily available. We don't put them up on our main website because it is international in nature. In the case of the Mozart Grand, they sell for $3000 a pair in standard finishes.

"As with all other products made by Vienna Acoustics, these new additions are carefully built by hand in Vienna, Austria with the same care and hand crafted Northern Italian cabinetry as all of our other products."

Best,

Patrick

Ha ha... too late... I was first to say where the drivers are made :p

Actually, the sub drivers on the Mahler is quite interesting, made by Eton utilizing a special honeycomb material that's supposedly so strong that a man xcan stand on the drivers without the diaphragm being deformed

At least it's what's being claimed.....

Yeah, let's get back to the speakers here.:D

So, the VA Music speakers are $27K/pr, compared to the Revel Salon2's $23K/pr.

Yeah, sure, measurements are NOT "everything".

But let's look at them anyway.:D

The Revel Salons are like 28Hz - 16kHz +/- 0.5dB, while the VA Musics are like 48Hz - 10kHz +/- 6.0dB.

That is a HUGE difference there.

It's probably just me, but if I spent that kind of money designing a speaker, I would want to make sure I get a lot better response than a +/- 6dB!!!

They really were discounted hugely then. That sales dude said he had been there for 7 years but oddly enough a bunch of stuff in the demo room wasn't hooked up right. No matter what kind of contract you bang out with Best Buy/Magnolia you can never discount the shithead factor. They might have had a sign on your speakers saying that they were 50% off.

Congrats on the job ... sounds cake. :)

Always interesting to see in which direction your posts go Alex ;)
Odd ... most say I am rather predictable.

I particularly liked the measurements that show The Music with a -3db downpoint of 48Hz, while the Poetry center channel and The Kiss both extend lower. Yep, those measurements surely were noticed by the reviewer as some hideous flaw in performance. I mean really, you would have noticed that cavern in the presence region, right?

By the way, heard the Revel Salon 2s last week in D.C. Great speakers. Granted they did not hold a candle to the Magico Q5s, but we are talking about a totally different price class. Strange that the Salon2s measure better on-axis. Must be some flaw in my hearing.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I thought they would be cheaper over here than in US coz we're much closer to Austria, seems like the opposite is the case, why are they more expensive over here.....

Have you by any chance heard the Salk Soundscape or Status Acoustics Titus?

I have not had the pleasure of hearing the designs from either manufacturer. Mostly there is an opportunity at trade shows to hear products from companies such as Status Acoustics or Salk, but after 15 hour workdays there is precious little time.

Best,

It's a "different market", or at least that's how companies try to explain it away, i.e. a non-explanation. That's why items manufactured in Canada are often sold at a lower price in the US, than up here where they are made. The cost of shipping often has little to do with selling prices.
