Velodyne / SVS / Hsu - or other subwoofer?

SVS SB12-Plus

I have one of the SVS SB12-Plus subs. It has good LFE output for it's size (about 13" cube) and the real wood veneer looks great. As sugested, a larger ported sub will get you more output in the <20 Hz range, but the the SB12 was a good compromise for my living room HT application.

Great response, thanx! It looks as if it's up to either Hsu or SVS (not SB12). I guess I might be able to stretch my budget regarding SVS and get the Plus but with Hsu I seem to get more value. The only downside to those brands is the extra international shipping cost and tax I'll have to pay since I live in Sweden.

I'll be sure to look over the B-stock items..... if I can find any?

Or you could order directly from SVS's authorized dealer for Sweden. Here's the page. Excuse me if I don't understand everything it says, but I'm pretty sure that says "tax included".

well, you're saved! an svs dealer over there ... but that's also the achilles heel to the cylinders. I highly doubt SVS will sell you directly anything, you're gonna have to go through lsound.

what do you have to say about these or others that you feel like recommending.
Hi,

Hsu and SVS are good companies producing good subs. You can't go wrong with them. I have another suggestion, though, a new sub just hitting the market: The AV123 MFW-15. All the previews I've read laud it. It's supposed to do solid high-teen frequencies in a typical room. It's gonna cost $599 for one, or $999 for a pair. If I were buying right now, it'd be on my short list, over all Hsus and SVSs under $900-1000. (Also on my short list would be SVS's PB13-Ultra. Wow!) You can find more info at

It is likely that L-Sound will special order any of SVS's products. It just might take some time to get it.

Get the PB12 NSD from this site if the price is fair shipped to your door. That is one outstanding subwoofer IF it's priced well under the VTF3 MK3. If not, get the VTF3 MK3 shipped.

The REL T2 has an 8" driver with a 10" passive radiator. Both the HSU and SVS would embarrass that sub.

Well I actually know for a fact that SVS do ship directly to Sweden, there's an SVS owner's thread at a swedish HT forum. But I'll send an email to Lsound, which btw resides in Norway not Sweden) and check what a total price would be.

Just got an email from Hsu asking my address for a correct shipping price, interesting.

Well, the SVS PB12-NSD shipped from Lsound incl. tax will amount to $1195. Hopefully Hsu can match that.

SVS or Hsu, you can't go wrong. Let us know how much Hsu wants for shipping to Sweden from California.

The last time I visited SVS's international sales page, I don't recall L-sound being there. If this is as new as I suspect, now that L-sound is the exclusive importer of SVS in Scandinavia/German speaking regions, including Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, it is unlikely that SVS will continue to ship directly to those countries any more so as not to interfere with this exclusive agreement.

I do know from personal experience that if you have any problem at all, the owners of SVS will personally ensure that you are satisfied even to the point of contacting the international distributor themselves to resolve your issue. You will still get SVS's great customer service if you use their authorized distributor.

The delivery and operation of my Hsu has been flawless to date, but should I have a problem, I would expect an equal level of service. You can't go wrong with either.

I understand that SVS or Hsu will most certainly fill my every need in a good subwoofer. But still it will cost me alot more to import it, even from Norway, than perhaps is reasonable.
Also a new compromising factor has surfaced - "WAF" - both svs and hsu are pretty big pieces. If I have to choose a smaller sub what are my best choices. This is still only something I have to take into consideration but hopefully in the end it will not matter.

Btw, how do you rate Kef HTB2 sub? It will look pretty good with my NHT Classic Three which I think I'll be getting, or Usher S-520. Just love that glossy black shine.

This search for a good sub is hard.....:)

You could consider the SVS SB12-Plus. You still get the Plus driver and it comes in gloss black with a PEQ, but in a smaller 15" x 14" x14" box. Lsound has the 220v-240v amp rated at 450w vs 425w on the domestic version. It's hundreds less than the PB12-Plus and at only 18kg, you will probably save on shipping costs as well.

Yes, the SB12-Plus is a front-row contestant, but that will put me in a pricerange I did not have in mind. Total cost will be about $1600, I'll be compairing that to other subs in same pricerange.
