This january I am forced by my wife to go to Colombia (South America). I bought a house there and never even seen it. My wife goes there every year without me, but this time I have no choice but to join her. To tell you the truth, I am not too crazy about going to that country, might not make it back alive. What do you think, should I back out or what? Hope I don't fall back into my old habits.

Personally, I would go. Natives of the country know where it is safe to go and where it is not safe to go.
Yeah, it will be hot and humid, but think of it as a new experience. And one that your wife wants to share with you.
Now, of course, Columbia is the capital of kidnappings and killings. So if you are worried your wife wants you to go just to have you bumped off...then you may want to reconsider.

Drove home for Thanksgiving break to lower Michigan today. Before leaving, last night up in Houghton, we got ~6 inches of snow. The street I live on is a hill, like 80% of the roads up there, but they blocked it off due to the road being a complete sheet of ice. Needless to say, I tried going up it with my Yukon. About halfway up, I had all four tires spinning, hit the brakes, and began to slide backwards, that's exciting.
Drive home today, hit a section of road about 20 miles long that was nothing but ice. Had a BMW on my ___ and a Le Sabre behind him. I brake checked em a couple times to no avail. Came around one turn where I still had my 4wd on, watched the BMW start to lose control, the Le Sabre hit his brakes and lost control completely, went off the road on the left side. The BMW stayed on the road luckily.
I took a couple pictures along the way... Here's one of the road, nothing but ice and a dusting of snow over top to make sure you have absolutely no traction.
And a picture of the Mackinac for good measure.
Needless to say, anyone traveling through snowy areas, watch out for them idiots who think their car is immune to ice and drive safely. Whether or not you have one of them behind you trying to get you to go faster.

Holy Moly, That's funny. My wife is from Bogota and she goes back there ever other year to see her family. Actually, it's kind of a vacation for me because she takes the rest of the family with her
She does bring back fresh coffee with her though. I love Colombian coffee!!Kidnappings most often occur on the outskirts of the cities, not when your in the mix of things. I was stationed there for 2 years and rarely observed any violence, cept when my wife (then girlfriend) caught me checking out the other locals.
Besides that, I had a great time, especially when I traveled to the coast...Cartagena, Santa Marta...now those were the good ol days!!

So much to tell... Well, important things first:
This was my first time renting villa, not a hotel room on vacation and it's great !! I'm not going back to hotels. Our villa is managed by local office and daily cleaned and price for big two bedroom attached villa is comparable to small room in 4 star hotel, but our villa is easily higher level furnishings, that most 4 star hotels.
If you go to St. Martin - DO NO RENT FULL size cars even more applies to full size suv. Besides expensive gas - about $4.9/gallon - roads are narrow and a lot of narrow city streets, but in same time condition of roads is pretty bad, so small 4x4 SUV is probably best bet.
St Martin has well over 30 beaches, but the picture above is of Friar Bay beach - One of best St. Martin beaches and local restaurant - Friar Bay Beach Cafe is pretty good too.
99% of people speak English and 100% accept US dollars
, but beware of majority of Fresh businiesses list prices in EURO and convert it $1.3-$1.4 to 1EU
