Used Home Theater Receiver Under $200

Hello everyone... I'm building a modest home theater in my new bedroom and I'm looking to get a solid used receiver. I have a set of Mirage 5.1 speakers and I'll be picking up a Panansonic 42" TV and a Panasonioc Blu-Ray player. My main purpose for the set up is for watching movies in the bedroom.

I am not looking to spend too much on the receiver, and I was actually thining of trying to get a 3 or 4 year old receiver that might be higher quality, but with fewer bells and whistles than a new one. I don't need HDMI switching, 7.1 surround sound or 3D. Just looking for a solid, older home theater receiver for under $200 or so...

Any ideas? My other two home theaters use Yamaha receivers. I've been out of the game for a few years so I'm not up-to-date on the best models over that span.

Thanks!

Seth's stuff is up to snuff and the size of Teac unit should appeal to you...
however just to thou in few more options:

This one is amazing deal for this power monster, however it's small cosmetic damage.

This one is one of latest models, however it's missing some feats to cut cost like hdmi upscalling and few other.

and my rec for $39 more this one:

I picked up a Denon 589 from Dakmart's ebay store for cheap - under $170 shipped. The 488 is even cheaper and is a near clone of the 589. Good thing is they come with a warranty - used AVRs do not.

Make them an offer - they may take it - they did in my case.

I recommend not going too old... some of the features of HDMI 1.3 are definitely worth it over HDMI 1.2 receivers. ie -HDMI lipsync - keeps your speakers and TVs in sync automatically via HDMI, Deep Color and xv.color - takes away color banding, and TrueHD and DTS Master - in case your disk player doesn't send this as PCM

Thanks for the replies!

I am jonesing for that Marantz... looks like an amazing deal. Just a little nervous about the damage...

To be honest, I owned the Denon unit (a little older, but same BA package) and was not impressed with the unit - I actually returned it.

The Onyo units are in play... many of these have 7.1 channels - is that an issue if I only am using 5 speakers?

I looked at the HK units and they seem underpowered. The AVR-154 looks like a great deal (Amazon for $176 NEW) but it only has 30 watts per channel. I am installing in a 450 square foot bedroom with a cathedral ceiling, so I think I'm going to need a little more power.

Any other suggestions for good units? I really don't need the HDMI switching and I am willing to hit stuff from 2007 on up... Thanks!

I was looking at the Sony STR-DH510. $200 shipped (brand new) and boasts 100 watts per channel. Also looked at the Sony STR-DN1000 which is a little above my range, but seems to have more functions.

Another one that I am looking at is the Yamaha RX-V367BL ($225)

I'll also look more closely at the Onkyo TX-SR508 ($225).

I'd like to be more at the $150 with a high-quality used (2 - 4 years old) but if I'm looking at $200 anyway perhaps a newer unit makes more sense with a warranty.

Stay the hell away from sony. Yamaha is not bad, but missing lossless audio, which could be not issue if you br player can output it as pcm, but then you could loose some avr sound processing...
HK units aren't underpowered - they just calculating watts differently...

Thanks... I also am looking at the Yamaha HTR 6030. Seems like a more entry-level unit, but I can likely get one for $100 shipped (used).

Looks like $110 shipped.;) That receiver is decent for the asking price, however it lacks HDMI. I had and sold the replacement model of that unit (which had HDMI but no support for audio over HDMI) with the remote and manual in prestine condition for around $100.

Here's one on ebay for $5.99 more than the HTR-6030. Comes with original box, manual, and remote. Seller says it was a customer return and the receiver is fully functional. I'd still shy away from receivers that have HDMI without audio support.

A used Onkyo TX-SR606 or TX-SR605 would be a nice unit with solid power. Another, slightly less feature based model with audio support over HDMI would be the Yamaha RX-V661. The RX-V661 has preouts, a feature the Onkyo doesn't have, but in comparison to the Onkyo it lacks in power and overall functionality.

I like this deal and if The Dali isn't interested I might be all over this like white on rice.

Ok, after a little research I think it comes down to the...

onkyo tx-sr605, 607, or 608

...or the

Yamaha RX-V663

Both are slightly over $200, although I think I can get a new/refirb Onkyo 605 from Amazon for about $230. Emig5M, let me know where you stand as I'd be interested in the V663 from a forum member for $200. Do you have the original box, cables, etc?

Otherwise, the Onkyo 600 series have received awesome reviews online, so I'd be leaning in that direction.

I'd prefer a Yamaha RX-V663 over a Onkyo TX-SR6** series, but that's just my preference. Both are excellent performers.

If the OP doesn't need ARC (audio return channel) and 3D support I'd go with the AVR-1610. The AVR-1610 has more legacy connnections (one extra optical, couple extra analog inputs)

By the way, either my computer/web browser is extremely old/not working or that "ecost" website is among the worst I've ever visited.
