Ukraine – Russia … not more of the last thread

Good. Now, we just have to see what the idiot does about it- will he continue to claim that it's an attack on Russia, or will he back down?

Lavroff said this is a hybrid war between the US ad Russia. He can call it whatever he wants, but the fact is, Russia shouldn't have invaded and they didn't need to.
This is the money post right here. Not to downplay Ukraine but this is about to get very very interesting.

Because we get to see exactly how far off his rocker Putin actually is. If Sweden and Finland apply and get accepted and Putin lashes out we 100% know how far off his rocker he really is.

If he tries to take on Nato while he's so deeply committed his forces into Ukraine he is 100% kookoo for cocoa puffs. Judging how well his army is doing in Ukraine Nato would slaughter him. Absolute slaughter.

He has to know this. So if he goes ahead and does it anyway he's totally crazy.

Just hope when he gets his a$$ kicked he doesn't go full out crazy and go for the nukes. But if he does that no point worrying it's game over human race anyway.

Too little, too late for the "If one country opposes a country's application, it's blocked" rule- Erdugon is saying that he'll try to block Sweden & Finland joining NATO. Screw him- he's aligned with Russia.

I don't think it's possible to prove with 100% certainty what Lavrov is thinking (assuming he is capable of forming thoughts), but he would have to be one of the dumbest people on the planet to believe a lot of what he himself says.

Here's an example from 2016:

>>>“If you’re talking about the Budapest Memorandum, we have not violated it,” he told a journalist. “It contains only one obligation — not to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine.” . . . Keep in mind that Lavrov wasn’t just Russia’s ambassador to the UN back in 1994; he actually signed the original Budapest Memorandum. He hasn’t been foreign minister for 12 years because he’s an idiot. He was lying, he knew he was lying and he knew everyone knew he was lying — and he didn’t care.

In the words of American diplomat Steven Pifer, who helped negotiate the Budapest Memorandum, “what does it say about the mendacity of Russian diplomacy and its contempt for international opinion when the foreign minister says something that can be proven wrong with less than 30 seconds of Google fact-checking?”

The answer: it says that, when it comes to the Kremlin, we’re dealing with a way of lying we’re not used to seeing. It’s a black-knight-from-Monty-Python-esque style of lying that makes dealing with Putin and company on issues like Ukraine and Syria such a nightmare.<<<

I suppose it's theoretically possible that Lavrov is so spectacularly dumb that he believes what he's saying, but it is beyond my imagination.
He seems a bit like Baghdad Bob- remember him, during the Gulf War I, when he was on camera saying something similar to "We have vanquished the infidels and they run away like the frightened dogs that they are" while US tanks were rolling up behind him?

Here's an interesting but not especially cheerful article about the experiences of "Wali" a Canadian sniper who was in Ukraine for two months.

>>>But the hunting for enemy tanks was often hampered by the overwhelming Russian forces they faced and by inexperienced soldiers who too often gave up their position.
Which is what happened one fateful day in the woods of Donbas. Wali tried to warn two Ukrainians to put out their cigarettes and stick to the small, damp trench they’d dug, rather than move closer to nearby Russian tanks. Instinctively, he moved several metres away from the pair.

Moments later a huge explosion lit up the site, pieces of burning shrapnel shooting through the air “like lasers.” Then he saw the two Ukrainians. One lay on the ground, his legs and one arm gone, clearly dead. The other was still barely alive, his body ravaged by the blast.

Then, “ten seconds after I came he stopped breathing.”<<<

He was apparently hampered significantly because he didn't have a range finder or a spotter:

>>>When they had a falling out, Wali made his way to Kyiv and eventually scored a top-shelf sniper rifle, though without a range-finder. That’s a crucial piece of gear for shooting far-away targets. The precise distance, temperature and wind speed are entered into a table that tells the shooter how to adjust the rifle’s scope to ensure the bullet follows the intended path. Wali also lacked a spotter, the sniper’s usual partner. “If I had all the means I had in Afghanistan, it would be slaughter all day long … it would be easy.”<<<

I wonder how Turkish intransigence will play out. They are an important - if troublesome - member of NATO. One of the problems with any organization - the more members you have, the more that different viewpoints and agendas come into play. It's what paralyzes the UN on so many matters. The only reason the UN was able to intervene in the Korean War was that the Soviet Union was boycotting its seat in the Security Council, preventing them from using their veto power when the vote was taken.

I think Turkey is trying to get some benefits with threatening to block new NATO memberships, and Turkey has done similar "blackmail" on other occasions against EU. There is also new election(s) in Turkey next year so perhaps this is intended for home public as well.

In the end I think (hope) that this will be resolved.

This begs the question: Is Putin both 100% off his rocker and 100% cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs?

In my estimation, it's entirely possible to be both. As evidence, I present the following, which clearly shows him both completely off any rockers, and admitting he is cuckoo:

The United Kingdom supports the idea of establishing an international criminal tribunal to trial putler.

"We clearly understand that Putin and all those behind the horrific war crimes, committed in Ukraine, must be brought to justice. We work very closely with the International Criminal Court", - said Liz Truss, the British Foreign Secretary.

The United Kingdom has sent its workers to Ukraine to help gather evidence of war crimes, from testimony to video.

Why Russia's closure of CBC's Moscow bureau was likely just a matter of time | CBC News

I'm surprised it took this long, actually.

Vasily Gatov, a Russian media researcher who is working on a book about the re-emergence of totalitarian censorship of the Russian press, believes the actions taken against the CBC were really about sending a message to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland.

"I think what is very specific ... is their attitude toward Canadian government decisions and Canadian government personalities who are very much disliked in Moscow," Gatov said of the Russian government's motives.
I'm not really a fan of our PM, but the fact that the Russian regime doesn't like him is a feather in his cap, as far as I'm concerned.

They should be taken out and shot by their own fellow troops for this. Preferably, after being rogered by a rifle barrel.

According to this article, the Russian naval blockade of Ukraine is having a major impact on global food supplies and prices.

Hopefully this can help against the Russian blockade.

>>>The White House is working to put advanced anti-ship missiles in the hands of Ukrainian fighters to help defeat Russia's naval blockade, officials said, amid concerns more powerful weapons that could sink Russian warships would intensify the conflict.

Ukraine has made no secret it wants more advanced U.S. capabilities beyond its current inventory of artillery, Javelin and Stinger missiles, and other arms. Kyiv's list, for example, includes missiles that could push the Russian navy away from its Black Sea ports, allowing the restart of shipments of grain and other agricultural products worldwide. ...<<<

Putin is punishing the World for not letting him have his way. The World should pay attention. This is exactly the world order the Russians are fighting for.

Putin is not crazy. He is trying to play geopolitical poker with a weak hand. The World should call his bluff.

Unfortunately, Putin will probably last as long as his health and China allows (unless he declares a further mobilization to replenish the military which he will probably not survive politically). If the world continues to not hold or take China's backing into account in this war, it will continue to grind on.

According to this article, the Russian naval blockade of Ukraine is having a major impact on global food supplies and prices.

Yes, it is. There are 20 million metric tonnes of grain in the Ukraine, not able to exit via the Black Sea. There are at least 20 Russian war ships in the Black Sea. In addition they have mined the sea.

The governor of the Bank of England this week warned of unprecedented mass world starvation related to this conflict. He also highlighted the role of this conflict in the aggressive world wide inflationary pressures. In addition to the grain problem, Ukraine is a major world wide supplier of fertilizer.

So at least in London there is now a conversation on how to open up the Black Sea and get agricultural product moving again. The first step is going to be to provide Ukraine with advanced lad to sea anti ship missiles and try and sink those Russian ships in the North Sea.

If this fails, I think the Royal Navy is prepared to go in and enter the Black Sea. Hopefully the US is also preparing for this eventuality.

The Russian Navy has to be removed from the Black Sea, so that it can be demined. Then ships can export grain again under naval escort.

On other matters Russia has now cut off Finland from natural gas, and more European countries are being cut off also.

Germany is today drawing up plans to ration natural gas, after Russian threats intensify to cut them off. The first consequence would see a massive fall in German industrial output especially in the auto sector.

The UK is going to provide military assistance to Moldova which Russia is now threatening.

This crisis is now at a tipping point, and direct confrontation between Russia and NATO is becoming more likely by the day.
