Well let me chime in here a bit. First of all, I am a brewer, so I do know a little something about beer. Anyone who says Guinness is an overrated dark beer does not know anything about beer. While Guinness is not the best stout, it is certainly a very good one, and it is brewed in a very unique way that gives it that little tang that it has. I would also agree that Murhpy's is as good if not better than Guinness. However, Sam Smith's Oatmeal stout is better than both.

Corona certainly belongs on the list. It is pi$$ water. There are great mexican beers, but it is not one of them. People who like corona could drink camel urine and not know the difference. Try Negro Modelo for a decent mexican beer that is not too heavy. Budwiser also belongs on the list as do ALL large scale commercially brewed beers. They are all junk. All of them! If you like them then fine, but they are not good beers and in some cases not even beer by definition. If you want a golden pilsner that is the real deal then try Pilsner Urquell. It is what Budwiser is supposed to be but falls far short of the mark.

Not all Ice beers are bad. Commercial, so called, ice beers are bad, but Germany has been making the style for a very long time and has some fantastic versions of it.

The worst beer I have EVER drank would be Stroh's. My god what were they thinking when they made that junk?

Commercial beers are what fast food is to good food. If you can't except that then you have no clue what a good beer is all about.

While I have to agree with you on the subject of Corona and commercial Ice beers I will stand by my statement that Guinness is a over popularized beer simply because of name recognition. While the beer is not bad at least when coming out of a keg there are generally far better choices to make if the establishment in question has a reasonable beer selection.

As far as Guinnes goes, it's a preference.

It's not in the same class as those watery lagers and pilsners. It's a stout. It's a different creature entirely. That's like comparing chicken to beef.

To say it's "bad" is doing a disservice to those who actually like the taste and texture of it. Just like in this hobby, preference is the rule. I rarely will say another person's choice in sound equipment is "bad", just that it would not be my preference.

I could say the same thing about scotch. It doesn't do it for me and I've never been able to acquire a taste for it, not that I tried too hard. But I do respect that there are some who do have a taste for it and can appreciate it. More power to 'em.

But, I do like Guinness and, apparantly, so do many others so how bad can it be?

.....& the beer tasted like dirty socks.
While this may be off topic, the dirty socks bring to mind an event that happened while spending five days in the Cranberry wilderness of West by god Virginia, backpacking and fishing.

I needed clean socks and decided to boil several dirty pair. Having left the pot simmering while trying to catch a brookie in the stream a few feet away my friend come back with a stringer full and proceeds to taste the simmering socks and comments ummmmmm good chicken broth.

I laughed so hard I fell in the stream killing any chances of catching any of those brookies. After ten years is still embarasses him.

Lmao

I also had an incident with filling my waders(with water;)). A sure fire way, killing any chance of catching fish and in the process making an A$$ of yourself and beer wasn't a factor!

As a general rule, any beer that you have to add citrus to in order to make it drinkable is by definition a bad beer. I have a sister in law that loves some crap beer (I think it has the word moon in the name) that was absolute piss. She tell me, "No, you have to drink it with an orange wedge." Um... no I don't. I don't have to drink it at all.

I had a pretty craptastic beer over the weekend...Modelo. A Mexican brew...was rather...bad. Bad entering the mouth/nasal area, bad in the mouth, bad going down and bad lingering aftertaste.

I have been enjoying alot of IPA's and Belgian Ales lately. There is a local brew-pub near me in Cedarburg, WI called Silver Creek that makes some pretty tasty brews.

I don't like the slightly skunky beers. Heiniken comes to mind as one I think is WAY overrated.

If by mean served properly you mean at the Guinness factory with a shamrock in the head then been there done that. Still not good. Its just an overrated dark beer with a name everyone recognizes. Its like the blose of the dark beer world.
That's certainly *not* what I mean, but it sounds like there's no point going much further here. Basically, you don't like it. Fair enough. Chacun a son gout! I'm not sure if it follows therefore that it's "overrated".

What kind of Modelo did you have? The negro especial isnt that bad with a good, traditional, bunch of Mexican food.

I never said I do not enjoy Guinness as long as I am at a bar and they keep it on tap I enjoy a good pint. As I was told in Ireland any other way is blasphemy. At the same time I just happen to think there are many far better beers out there so I think its overrated.

It wasn't the Negro Modelo, it was in a clear glass bottle and a typical light-colored beer.

Just said "Modelo" on the bottle, iirc.

I was less than enthused with it.

Guinness is some good drinking. Not a beer though.
Corona is a waste of good fruit. But if you really want to talk bad, does anyone remember Billy beer? That was truly awful.

Don't give up on the brand until you have had Negro Modelo. Its the only beer of theirs I have had but it is extremely worth while.

Guinness is not overrated: it is what it is. What it has that other stouts do not have is a fantastic marketing campaign. Their marketing is BRILLIANT! That does not make it overrated in the least. They never make the claim that they have the best stout. Stout lovers do not even say that it is the best stout, however I can tell you with certainty that it is very difficult to duplicate, and that is not true of a mass produced commercially marketed beer such as Budwiser.

Genesee Cream ale is some awful stuff as is Mickey's, Hamm's, Labbats, Molson, Moosehead, Yuenglings, Olympia, Lonestar, Pearl, and Sam Adams cherry wheat. Blech!

First of all I do like guiness but you have to have it on draft. I will not drink it in the bottle or can!!

Second I love Irish Car Bombs!! Which you have to have if it's only on draft not the same in a can or bottle!! I also like if they have both on draft Blue Moon & Guiness a black & blue but where I live there are only like 2-3 places that have both on draft!!

Third my worst beer I have ever tried was the Sam Adams Cranberry. Oh my god there are a few things you should not mix and that's beer & Cranberry ugh!!

The worst "good" beer I've ever had has to be Sam Adam's Cranberry Lambic. Simply horrific! Imagine taking a bottle of beer, pouring in a shot of Ocean Spray, then whisking in a couple TBSP of sour cream- that's pretty close to what it tasted like.

It's my next purchase when I'm at the liquor store.

If I hate it, you can send me your address.
