David. Wow!!!

Your thread makes me feel like Chef Skinner when he's disguised and tasting the Ratatouille that Remy made for Anton Ego.

If you haven't seen the movie, my face is distorting between jealousy and great pleasure. :D  :D  :p

Wonderful job David! congratulations.

If you would not mind could you fill us in on the room dimensions and any lessosns learned. I have picked up some, but a summary would be awesome.

I saw earlier reply that you had spent $15k or so. From the looks of it I would have guessed closer to $25k. The seats alone are about $10k are they not?

What brand of seats did you choose? Happy with them (cushy enough, too hard, Etc.)?

In two years I'll be starting my theater, already have a finished room but currently it is just storage; no HT equipent (only 2.0 audio set-up). Trying to gather as many lessons learned.

Thank you for the great detail and keep us updated!

I got a great tip from Buckeye Nut on this store, from the deals forum. 8 seats were 3k shipped including in home 5 year warranty. You'll see mine down lower, and I guess there is some price fluctuation, as just a couple weeks ago they were even cheaper. You can PM me for more details/questions.

I spent about as much he did, but my room is nowhere as nice. The nicest touch are my burgundy curtains, which even if made by a family friend, were still pretty expensive. Riser was less than $300. Two large black Ikea rugs in the front to help with light control, also less $300. Some acoustical treatments, more to come one day. By far, most of my cost was in my gear. I'm using fine equipment.

Im not David, but I have a couple of important tips. First, the room is everything. Both visually and aurally. The room is everything.

Second, if I wasn't trying to fit so many persons with such a huge screen, I probably would have gone for an AT weaved screen. Use three towers for the front. Before going dedicated HT, I would have bought wall/ceiling mountable surrounds instead, just in case.

Scour the dedicated theater build forum at AVS. Get the front as one homongenous color or feel, visually speaking.

Read my review in the reviews forum, for RF remote setup, $83.

A nice modular rack by Studio Tech is $200.

Monprice cables. Long 35 ft HDMI $43.

As you can see, I try to keep it down on the accessories. Also, the great majority of my products were bought either used, refurbished, demo, open box, etc.

Light control, black man cave, etc, is a total must for some, but then others leave everything white. There are indeed some personal choices to be made. Whether white or black, or something in between, some believe in having it consistenly homogenous. Mine is very dark, pretty evenly, except the ceiling that I left white. Some believe the ceiling is most important to treat. In my case and particular setup, IMO, it wasn't any more important than any other wall.

Not anymore, I reduced the projected image a little down to 127" and I made sure the projector setting were all on-line. The projector was not perfectly strait to the screen. So I had it adjusted wrong. All is A-OK now!!!
I'm in love.

Oh yeah I'm still around!! thanks for the kind words. I'm still working on the theater with some DIY sound treatments and also installing a bunch of bass shakers in my seats. More to come.

Thanks again.

Great job! How many pounds have you gained from eating all the candy? ;)

That's going to be a lot of bass shakers! I'm thinking about doing the same as I can't feel the bass very well despite DefTechs plus SVS.

Glad to see your room is close to finished now. It looks great.

Just curious, how did the SPL meter effect subwoofer and speaker placement?

What was the most offending frequency(s)? How did you tame them?

I ask because your room dimensions look rather square. I assume the second row of seating has the best sound?
