Very nice, I have the same sub, and while I haven't hear the flight of the phoenix scene on blu ray, it is still very impressive in standard dolby digital. Congrats on your new baby, I know you will enjoy it for many years to come.

It's an acoustic Research cable. Best Buy in Canada used to sell them. They were great, cheap cable that had good build quality. I especially love the rubberized middle for gripping them. They've now been replaced here with the crappy Rocketfish garbage brand.

PS: I love the fact that I have Parametric EQ on the sub. I thought that was for the ultra models. I have no idea how to set them. Just have all contrals set to minimum.

and the best part of his mini cup collection was you had to buy a case of beer to get one? Needless to say Bluesmoke has lots of them:D.

Hey billy,

What brand?

If they gave away a brick with every case of beer I'd have a house...

Good memory. That was ages ago (almost 10 years I think). They came in Labbatt's Blue.

Ok, put the sub through its paces. However (and I'll be completely honest), it's not as great as I expected. It's definately a great sub and I can tell the difference right away but it's not "WOW" great. Granted my room is pretty small, 12x14, and now I'm seriously considering exchanging it for the PB10 and saving myself $500 if it seems the 20-39+ isn't much of an improvement over the PB10.

Any advice?

I'd think moving down to the PB10 would be a substantial drop. It would be better to go to the PB12 IMO.

I'd definitely contact SVS to get their opinion before you choose another model. They've never steered me wrong.

Can you describe what you'd want for more "wow"? For example, is it lower frequencies, higher output level, better control? If it's lower frequencies, you may want to consider one of their 16-46 subs. The response of the 16-46 PCi is very flat at $649, but the 16-46 PC-Plus at $949 (the next one up from yours) should have more output and has more tuning choices. The PC-Ultra should have better control than the others along with a higher output level. My PC-Ultra definitely wows me in a room that is about 15' x 20' with 10' cielings and a very open floorplan, but that's quite a bit pricier.

Well, I know I'm not moving up, that's for sure. If anything, I was thinking about moving down. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'm not happy with the sub, but rather it doesn't seem like a big jump and maybe because my room situation doesn't allow the sub to perform at its best - hence why I was thinking the PB10 might do the same job as it's usually tailor made for a room like mine.

How much of a jump is the 12.3 driver over the NSD?

if it's really overkill, i'd tune it to 12hz :)

i would never switch from the 20-39 to a PB10 ... aside from output, you get SQ ... when the 10 starts to get loud, it starts to fumble ...

12.3 vs. NSD difference? lots. svs may say otherwise, but just looking at the drivers just says a lot. the plus can just handle more SPL, therefore less THD.

e.g. driver surround size, magnet, excursion ...

Have you actually calibrated your sub? I'm surprised it's not meeting your expectations. That's one heck of a sub. I'd think your sub should approach what the Ultra can do. I will tell you my Ultra WOWS me still. That one should out perform the NSD. Maybe you need to adjust the PEQ on the sub too.

No, I haven't calibrated it. I need to get an SPL meter.
