The Bass Cannon is Here (SVS).

I know what one of the problems was. I had the phase set to 90 and when it should have been at 180. The other was the receiver's sub volume was set too high by the YPAO. Now it's nice and tight on the low end and there's no boominess.

Also, does anyone know why the BASH amp has a 25hz tuning option when the tuning point is 20hz?

my first impression of my SVS pb12 plus 2 was very boomy and was disappointed, I then calibrated with SPL and noticed how the setting on the receiver was way to high. what a huge difference, night and day after i used the SPL AND SET THE SUB TO 76DB.

CALIBRATE.

I was thinking that it was either (a) that SVS just kept the same amp options for all of the PC-Plus line or (b) that it might be a less-sophisticated way of doing room eq as compared to the Ultras. However, I'm assuming that you're amp doesn't look like the one on the SVS website for the 20-39 PC-Plus because you mentioned that it had PEQ (and I didn't think that it did). Would you mind putting up a picture of the amps face plate? Thanks.

Here it is. It's hard to get pics without moving the sub so this is the best I can do.

Thanks for the pics! That is awesome that the PC-Plus models come with the PEQ on the amps. I had no idea that they did. That is one of the things that I really like about my Ultra.

If you have any questions about how to use that, just let me (and the others here) know. I'd be happy to help you out with it. In general, it allows you to flatten out one hump in the frequency response (if you have any). I used a test tone CD and SPL meter and measured the response from 15Hz (or maybe it was 10) up to over 100Hz. I was able to use the port tuning (in conjunction with the subsonic filter setting) and room compensation (which I don't see on your amp) to tame a hump at the lowest end, and then I used the PEQ to tame another hump up around 65Hz. Worked great. I mention it because your sub has almost the same capabilities to get a flatter response, so something to think about.

I think my issue with this sub is mostly that it doesn't seem to do as well as I expected in the 30-50hz range, where the powerful bass is? It seems to do the low bass quite well, but the impact from explosions, etc seems to be lacking.

Really scratchin' my head here...Maybe you have a null there due to your room? Have you tried moving your sub around?

I think it is quite common for people to expect something different, and ultimately less accurate, in their bass. Give it some time and I'm sure you will find that it sounds good this way :) Most have never heard clean bass and expect that bloom that most subs have in the 30-50Hz region.
