TC 2000 sealed with 2400 watts?

I want a subwoofer for my medium sized bedroom but I'm looking for something that will practically stop my heart. I want it to make my skin crawl.

In the classifieds a gentleman is selling his TC 2000 in a 4 cf sealed box . I can get a http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60264

What size is the room exactly...

I have run that sub in my small bedroom and it had some very very impactful output... Easy as much or a bit more then my F112 I have in there now..

I guess it all depends on how HOT you like to run your bass compared to your main.

I would go for it... Try and see if the seller has the T/S Parameters. This will allow you to design a ported enclosure if you desire at a later time. Very capable driver.

You REALLY need to keep this condensed to one thread BTW...

I think you would be more than happy with this sub in a sealed box... Warp did a comparison to a sub that cost ~$3k.
 
Oh to the JL 12"? Yea it seemed pretty comparable. I'm not a picky listener so as long as it pounds the daylights out of me... its all I care about.

I guess, without taking out a measuring tape and thinking only from my head about 175-200 sf. normal height ceilings?
 
I'd build two subwoofers with less esoteric drivers. Just my opinion.
 
That is exactly the same size room as my bedroom that I have my F112 in and that sub with the EP2500 will seriously blow your mind.
Here are some pics of the comparison with the F112 and the TC2K.
I am still running the F112, but I would have no issue what so ever with the SQ or output replacing it with the TC2K. Lots and lots of good clean output, and I like alot..

It seems to be sub day today!

Here is the model of this sub.

That driver is definitely for sealed use only. It does not model well vented and needs a 7 cu. ft enclosure, and there are much better options for that application.

xmax for that driver is 28 mm, which is excellent. The F3 in your enclosure is 40 Hz 12 db roll off per octave. So it around 12 db down at 20 Hz. It will tolerate some Eq, at 12 db per octave boost starting at 40 Hz. However by applying Eq to the driver to 20 Hz, you will consume a lot of the drivers power capacity and reach xmax limit. You will with every sealed application. So if Eq is applied to extend the flat response to 20 Hz, the spl will be limited to around 103 db. Still pretty loud, but not window shattering by any means.

I think the 4 cu. ft. box volume is about right, that gives about the lowest achievable Fs for that driver and Qtc is just below 0.5 at 0.485. This will make it a very good music sub. The bass will be very tight and controlled, there will be no boom whatever. Some Hollywood explosions may seem a little tame. This will be a very well mannered sub, and I would think you would be able to pick out the tympani notes just fine.

I think it will need the Eq though to really perform, and this is normal for all sealed drivers. It has enough xmax to tolerate it.

It is a bit peaky in the 50-60hz range and a little EQ would be good, and maybe a touch of boost in the 20-25hz range. to get it flat down low.

This driver even works well is a smaller sealed box then that, but the F3 goes up a bit and will get you closer to a QTC of .7

Very well built drivers and can take a beating....

Yes you are correct, the optimal box volume for that driver is just over 1.6 cu. ft. That raises the F3 to 44 Hz, however, with no Eq, cone displacement is 6 mm less at 20 Hz, so more power can be applied with Eq. Inexperienced DIYers always try and go for lowest F3 and far more often than not that is a mistake.

Qtc comes up to around 0.7 which would make it a better HT sub.

I modeled the sub as offered for sale. With a Qtc below 0.5 that sub will be very dry. I would probably like it but a lot of people wouldn't. Their reaction would be that there is no bass, and they would tend to turn the driver up too high and run it out of gas. However as a classical music sub it is likely stellar. If the OP is not a classical music fan, he likely will want to pass or build the smaller box.

With this smaller box design Eq of 12 db per octave should be applied starting at 50 Hz.

I would say buy the driver and run it... he can always build a smaller box, in a room as small as his, it will provide lots of pressure and he can eq a touch to shape it a bit more. I would suggest against the EQ.2 though personally.

I built all my boxes for those drivers at 20" or 21" external giving a 3.0 net after bracing and driver.

These are really good drivers and at a fantastic price... You can't get a driver like that anywhere for that price IMO... With the kind of build quality TC-Sounds delivers and power handling they deliver... They are really made for Car Audio, but they have the capabilities to work for a HT environment to be certain.

I have purchased the Sub in question. I will be purchasing the EP2500 later this week.
I need an EQ! Can you suggest a few that wouldn't break the bank? I have heard negatives on the eQ.2 and will not be getting that model.
Perhaps someone knows of someone selling one cheap?
I have no idea what you all are talking about (parametric whats? and tc's and all that stuff). I will need help adjusting once my stuff arrives.

You could look at the Behringer FBQ2496. BUT check out the sound card you are looking at to see if it has any bass management and eq options. That and REW (Room EQ Wizard) with an SPL meter would work.

The reason that I suggested the eQ.2 is because I am taking into account your just getting into this and wanted to be cognizant of that fact. If you really want to pull out all the stops and are ok with your head spinning a bit ... I am sure you will get plenty of help from AH and others (especially Hometheatershack).

I will probably be running with the onboard sound card until it proves itself worthless. Especially with my wireless Macbook Pro. The sound card isn't much at all. I'm sure someone else out there has a solution for this.

Even with your Macbook Pro you will want a dedicated LFE (subwoofer) out. There are other ways to do this but I am trying to keep it simple.
 
When you have a good LFE output setup - I would suggest just run the sub and see how it sounds in your room, even without EQ I think it will be impressive for you at first, then you can worry about learning how to work on EQ'ing later....
 
LFE output setup- What is this? Can't I just run this from my sound card on the subwoofer out 1/8" jack
Sound card states=
SPDIF Out- Optical and Coaxial

Audioengine A5's state- 1/8" input with a set of rca outputs

Does this help?
