SVS Shipping Delays...Other Options?

JR5,

If I've learned anything from the movies (and as we know, all life's problems are answered in the movies ;^), it's that "stupid is as stupid does".

I didn't take your comment that way, frankly I appreciate your opinion.

We know we're in a fishbowl with a sales model based on the web, and walk a line between those who are put off by an OEM popping into a forum... and those who think it's pretty cool.

We just try to do the right thing with people, whether they are customers are not. We figure if we start with products we're literally unable to make better for a given price; then looking in the mirror every day and hitting the keyboard or phones becomes a bit easier.

I appreciate the comments Ron! You are on your way to becoming more sensitive and softer in print, I can see it already  This is all for good, believe you me. Sometimes brevity is a virtue.

"Sometimes brevity is a virtue."

Amen.

Most my posts would be shorter, but I don't have time ;^)

As we spruce up our factory (only been in this facility 18 months) you might even look forward to how sensitive we can be when we're handing you a beer and doing some ground plane instrumeted testing with one hand and flipping burgers with another.

If we can pull off an SVS open house at the factory in Ohio, you'll know we're just a bunch of workaholics selling the best we can build for Audioholics.

Peace, gotta get back to work and make sure there are no nightmares waiting to happen.

R&R Ninja – have you heard any of the three subs you’ve listed?…or is a suggest for subs I should be looking at/considering?

RLA and Gene – I wait with baited-breath! But I am wondering if a 15-in sub might be a little on the large side? Somewhere I had gotten it into my head that I should be looking at 12-in subs. I could be wrong.

The room is 16x25ft. I have Vienna Acoustics all the way around; Beethoven’s for the mains, Hayden’s all around, and a Maestro for the center. I listen mostly to 2-ch stereo, she likes movies with noise all the way around.

But that brings up another question:

Is there a minimum threshold for subs such that listening to music at lower volumes could result in sub not even getting started? Sorry if it seems a silly question, I have never owned a subwoofer before.

Ron - thanks for the msg. I really want to concentrate on a getting a quality sub and not really getting into any problems SVS may have.

SilverSurfer – looking at both Hsu subs you and R&R Ninja recommended.

AV-Man – ‘She’ absolutely loves the finishes of those speakers, all of them! Never heard of the Triad brand, finding scant reviews online. I'll need to contact Triad to see if they are distributed near me.

TO EVERYONE ELSE – Thank you for your inputs. No, the problem has nothing to do with product demand, lead-time, or waiting for product availability. Not an issue, and SVS makes that known if/when you place an order. It goes beyond that, but as I mentioned in the reply to Ron, that is not the reason for this thread. I need a subwoofer.

Normally, when I start a thread I try to reply to everyone that took the time to respond. I am sorry, there are too many posts/too fast for me to keep up with it. Please know that I am reading all of the responses, and I do appreciate your replies, even the Canadian one that “wouldn’t have bothered to reply.”
:)

TjMV3 – In general, I think manfs of big-ticket items tend to enjoy stronger product loyalty from their customer base. I can only presume it would be similar with audio equipment.

Am I the only one here who is baffled? If it is not product shortage, then what could it be?

Of course there are plenty of good subs with budget above $1000 USA. Paradigm and Axiom come to mind immediately. HSU is also up there with the best, but they are from the States, so value wise is probably best to look at Paradigm.

9f9, we don't have problems, just challenges that haven't been overcome yet ;^)

Best of luck to you, drop me an e-mail if there's any way we can help as you try to select something. It's not easy weeding out choices in this market (true of just about any consumer product today, not just audio of course).

......Ron Stimpson, I'll say this.....

.....one of the best moves I've ever made was to mail about a gallon of homemade BBQ-Sauce to a 4th of July cookout at SVS/Ohio two years ago......

I've heard the STF-3. its very good. I liked the dual TN-1220's even more, but those are discontinued right now. :( From everything I've read, the Outlaw is an STF-3 with a different cabinet finish. I have not heard the EP500. I've never even ead a professional review on it. I was hoping that you'd buy one and do us the favor of telling us if its any good :D

Why would a HSU rep make a comment of "my product is without peer subjective or objective"? Why would anyone make that comment? That just sounds do dumb. Subjective is subjective for a reason. Otherwise no other speaker companies would exist. By goodness, close that mouth Ron and let your product do the talking, it is good enough (and now I am sounding like your father  )

Are you serious? You think it's abnormal for a manufacturer to think their product is the best and to market it that way?

Dunkin Donuts thinks they make the best donuts and coffee
BMW thinks they make the best car, as does GM think they make the best and Ford, Mercedes, Toyota etc.
Dell thinks they make the best computer.
Nikon thinks they make the best cameras
Ben & Jerry thinks they make the best ice cream
Steinway the best pianos
Snap On the best tools
John Deere the best tractor

You get the idea.

Good evening gentlemen,

We have never claimed to have the "best" design for everyone. Subwoofer design is all about compromise. We design our products with certain compromises, just as any other subwoofer designer does. Consumers in general seem to be in favor of the compromises that we have adopted, but there is most certainly no perfect product for all individuals.

Sincerely,

Peter – thanks for posting. You said what is pretty much also said on the Hsu website about compromises.

What compromises did Hsu make? And how do those compromises differ from the compromises other subwoofer manufacturers made?

I appreciate your response. Btw, ‘Sue’ or ‘Shoe’? :)

It is "Sue"

Dear 9f9,

We try to achieve as flat a power response curve as possible over the vast majority of the subwoofer's intended operating bandwith, even up to maximum output levels, for as little money as possible. With this in mind, we prefer to design ported systems. We also prefer not to use very small enclosures, since this reduces system efficiency. That said, we still try hard to minimize the footprint of our subwoofers, and we do recognize that some people prefer the sound from a sealed enclosure, so we plan to offer that as an option in the future.

Some people use the pronounciation "Shoe", but I always use "Sue" :D

And please do not hesitate to try out some of the Canadian brands. They make excellent products!

Have a wonderful night!

Sincerely,

Back to your original post. What is it about SVS that is a nightmare???? Simple question.

Oh, yes, do those compromises really matter to you? How will you know which compromise you can live with and not the others???

mtrycrafts is right.

What is the nightmare you experienced with SVS ?

I have been following this thread since you posted and this question has been avoided.

It could be delays in delivery because of the demand for the new wood cabinets. See:

Yes, it could be but he has not stated what is his nightmare. I am not a psychic, yet :D
