Subwoofer Cables Monster vs Monoprice. No Haters Please.

Alright ... I've been reading forums for a while to notice that there are 2 camps. One says cables are a major factor and others that swear to God that Monoprice is all you need.


I've been using my friend's Monster 12ft cable
MONSTER CABLE Monsterbass 400 Subwoofer Cable 12ft | Accessories4less


Recently he had to take it back and I replaced it with a Monoprice
10ft High-quality Coaxial Audio/Video RCA CL2 Rated Cable - RG6/U 75ohm (for S/PDIF, Digital Coax, Subwoofer, and Composite Video) - Monoprice.com


Did I hear a major difference? I am not sure. I am the one that made fun of him for spending $300 on Monster snake thick speaker cables (that he actually gave me to use right now).


This question is for NON haters. Those that actually compared regular subwoofer cable to something a bit more expensive. Did you hear a difference? Is it worth it?


I am currently using that Monoprice cable going into a (L) input instead of using a splitter like this one

So ... bottom line ....
stick with my current Monoprice cable going into (L) channel in the sub

Are both cables made up of copper? Are both cables sufficiently large enough to carry the output signal? Presume YES, than no audible difference to be heard..

Since you already proved it to yourself, I have no idea why this is even a question. There's a REASON people hate Monster, and they've earned it.

For any RCA analog audio interconnects well longer than 10 feet, these Blue Jeans Cable LC-1 pages describe suitable cables.

Note that this is about AC power noise & leakage problems not the analog signal itself. A well chosen cable can have up to 25 dB less background noise than some common poor choices.

My current sub supports XLR, so I use that, but I've been using the Blujeans LC-1 sub cables for my subs for many years. Good stuff.

It may depend on the plate amp on the sub.

READ THE MANUAL FOR YOUR SUB!

I can say for sure that 1 of my subs recommends using a splitter to the L/R inputs of the sub (in the manual)

The problem with Monster is that they use marketing and trickery to get $ out of your pocket!

They aren't "poor quality" in general, but you can get "better quality" for the same price elsewhere.

If you are worried about cable quality, then go to BJC and problem solved for a reasonable (though not exactly cheap) price.

Are you kidding? BJC offers cables that look good and are still an excellent value. This thread is something that the search function could have eliminated.

If you want high quality (broadcast quality) cables, then go to BJC. At BJC, your $ goes to quality products and NOT to some fatcat marketing genius that you are making rich (ie Monster).

BJC offers all the quality that you will ever "need".

If you want peace of mind and to know that "the cables aren't the problem", then go to BJC. They are not "cheap" by any means, but their cables aren't cheap quality either. You get what you pay for with BJC.

Otherwise, just get high quality and accurately rated cables for less $ and call it a day.

If you insist on spending more $ than BJC, then you are fooling yourself or you are more interested in aesthetics than performance.

BJC is a quality of construction price/benefit argument.

You know with them you are getting premium materials, premium build quality (good strain reliefs, good solder joints or compression fittings) etc.

On a long run of RCA cable a higher end, with braided shield, may improve the sound quality because it will be more resistant to interference.

I don't mind Monster at all IF you can get them at the right price.

What does spending thousands on your system have to do with the price of your cables? You are confusing price with quality. Do you think that if you paid twice as much for the exact same receiver you own right now that it would sound any better? THAT is the type of illogical thinking that Monster is banking on; they're selling you a name, not a product. People "bother" with a company like Bluejeans because they make a high quality product at a reasonable price because that makes SENSE. Imagine that.

Well luckily we don't pull our stereos around by the wires, so we really don't need to invest in beefy cables to handle the weight of our heavy gear.

I'm using a Monster subwoofer cable in my system right now on one of my subs. I bought it years ago (1998) when I got my first sub, so it was around in the box when I added my second SVS a couple of years ago. My first SVS is connected with a Better Cable that I bought from SVS at the same time. Can I tell a difference? No. Did I expect to? Absolutely not.

The Better Cable end connectors are nicer and the cable is more flexible, so I like it better. It actually cost more than the Monster cable, though, so probably not what you're asking. I've also used Monoprice cables (not on my sub) and other inexpensive cables (on my sub), and no - I can't tell a difference in audio reproduction.

Monster isn't bad cable, it's just overpriced for what you get if you pay retail. Get a good deal on them, and there's no reason not to buy them. I admit that I don't get the allure of BJC. They always seemed overly expensive to me when I'd go look, and a member here (Barry) sent one of their HDMI cables along with something that he sold me. I have to say, I wasn't impressed. Didn't seem built better than others that I've bought for about $5. Doesn't mean it isn't built better, but because the digital signal works fine with my inexpensive cables, the only thing that would make me want to buy them is if the connectors were easier to install or if the cable felt better or routed better - that's not the case with the cable that I got. So, I'll just continue to save my money.

I also think BJC cables are expensive, I bought one of the rca to mini cables from them because the others I tried only lasted about a couple months at a time and the bjc also only lasted a couple months, thats when I figured out you could put your own end on it and bought the parts at pe to do so , never broke again, well once but I fixed it easily enough...

For cables if you can see them then buy ones you can bare to look at, as long as they are the correct cable and built to where you wont have problems with them, they are all going to sound the same...

If the cables are equal in quality then why spend the extra money on a cable just because it has a certain name on it. You could use the money you save to put towards something else you will buy in the future.

seems like a decent cable. Maybe better construction that what I got from Monoprice. Will it be better in sound quality??? eh ... it;s funny I spent 5 times more of my time constructing my HT than the time I spent watching movies. Sad
