Sub locaton question

Is it o.k. to set your sub close to an LCD t.v.? We just reconfigured our built-ins in the living room and I discovered that I had enough room to sit the sub directly behind my new 42" LCD. (My goal was to gain spousal approval by hiding the sub all together) Two of the subs legs sit on the back half of the t.v.'s stand. The questions are:

1. Can the sub's magnet hurt the LCD?
2. Can the vibration from the sub hurt the LCD?
3. Can the sub be damaged by being tilted slightly?

Here is a pic of the finished product:

1) No.
2) Maybe, but not likely.
3) No.

The real issue will be that this location is probably one of the worst possible choices for sub placement. WAF is a factor that many have to deal with, but I have to say in this case, it will most likely be to the detriment of your sound.

Agreed. There must be some other places in the room where it can go and sill remain out of site.

Just what sub are we talking about here?

It is a Klipsch 10" 420W Downfiring Powered Subwoofer. (y'all don't laugh too hard now!)

I thought that the sound was going to go to hell when I put it in there, but surprisingly, it's not bad at all. As a matter of fact, it sounds as good as when I had it sitting in the corner behind that white chair in the picture. Also, the bass "hot spot" on the right side of the room is now gone...... go figure. We do have some pretty crazy acoustics in the room to begin with:

- vaulted ceiling
- two doors that are always open
- sealed / painted concrete floor
- two windows
- etc.....

Thats a prety big subwoofer. Well, if it worked, more power to ya. Never have to worry about localizable bass thats for sure. :)

EDIT: Actually, being that close to the ceiling is probly why it's ok. If it was in the middle of the wall, it would loose a lot of output due to the large room between boundries.

Raising the sub off the floor quite often improves response, however putting it inside a cabinet usually does not. If it worked, then I guess you're ahead of the game, lucky or both :)

Then it's just like my golf game, I'd rather be lucky than good!

If it sounds the way you want it, why not?

Is your LCD and sub fully secured? Would hate to have the tv topple over during a heavy action sequence.

Would the WAF increase if you had it on the floor and threw a doily over it? :D
