Well it’s been a long time (12 years ) since I was really into hifi equipment. I finally got a home and a bunch of things came together. A new in the box pair of Focal Chora bookshelves and stands for 300 bucks.

A BDI 72inch stand for 150 bucks ! Clean too.
Well I came across a Project Esprit with the acrylic platter and a Marantz PM 6005 (45 watts @8ohm) a few hundred dollars. With this table should I get the hold down center piece that secures the record better ? Also do I place a mat on the acrylic piece or leave it as is

I knew it I was into the high fi world for a few hundred bucks. Which I’m pleased about. It’s already a bunch of fun.

I already had a Yamaha RXV475. (No phono input but 85 watts at 8 ohm)

I am wondering and thinking that the best option is run the turntable to through the marantz for the preamp phono and then power it w the Yamaha. Does this wound correct ? I would assume the speakers would enjoy the extra headspace and added power the yamaha has ?
If this is so I may go with a project tube preamp down the line and cut out the marantz.
Does all this sound correct ?

I need to get a cartridge for this piece. I’m thinking 2m Blue Ortofon but I’m open for options ???

Last I am wondering what would be the option for steaming music from say tidal to this setup from my phone or tablet ?

Looking forward to the ideas and advice you guys may have.

Patience, amico. ;) Friday nights and Saturday mornings are slow.

I'm not a vinyl guy, so my advice will be limited to this:
Keep things simple, first. Try just using the Marantz and not incorporating the Yammy. Yes, the power of the Yammy will give you just under an additional 3dB of possible SPL.
But how loud do you listen?
Most people probably only exceed 8 or even 16 watts on very rare occasions.

If you find you need more power, try running it to the Yammy.

Ah... but wait.

I just looked up the specs on your Yamaha AVR and they say 80w into 6 Ohms. 8 ohms will likely be less power per channel.

With that, I would say it's not even worth the effort of interconnecting them. Again, you could... just don't know how much a difference it will actually make in the end.

You want to employ the Yamaha AVR as a stand-alone power amp? I personally wouldn't overcomplexify what should be a simple PB&J stereo rig and stick with the Marantz. If power is a genuine bottleneck, keep an eye out for something that checks all the boxes on your list of requirements.

I looked up several sources and found most say at 8ohms

I did find one that said at 6ohms.
As far as volume goes…. I blast it !

I guess I forgot an important note that I’m using the focals as my main right and left on my home theater setup

Last I understand Friday and sat nights being slow on here. That’s when you pour a glass and listen.

I was on the Yamaha website. *shrugs.

Hmmm. I just looked up "blasting" and there is no specific SPL associated with that. ;)
Focal Chora 806 is rated at 89dB Sensitivity, Nominal 8 ohm load with a 4.6 ohm minima.
16w @1meter will put you over 100dB.

My experience "blasting" music might have me hitting ~80dB before it gets uncomfortable. Mind, I'm a trained musician and know well what LOUD is, as well as pain. ;)

Unless you are trying to drive a block party with that set up... (You shouldn't try, really)... you will most likely be fine.

Without knowing more about your listening habits, and the room you are in, how far to your LP, etc... My advice doesn't change.
If it were to change, I would tell you to find a real Power Amp that will give you ~120-150w per channel.

What kind of phone and tablet are in use here?

You could connect an Airport Express Gen 2 to the Marantz receiver for iOS devices or connect a Chromecast Audio for Android devices. Both have combo 3.5mm/optical ports that will need the specific cable for connection to the Marantz. Then, stream away from the Tidal app in your device over your network to the device connected to the Marantz.

Yes indeed. I used an airport express for a long time. Simple and effective. With the remote app I could also stream my whole collection from my pc.

Do you have a large vinyl collection to play already? I wouldn't bother with a tt otherwise. I wouldn't generally bother with an integrated amp as an add-on to the HT setup either, especially a relatively weaker amp like that Marantz, altho I suppose you could use the rec line outs on the Marantz to connect to your Yamaha. You could just buy an external phono stage to use with your Yamaha, too, altho a tube type wouldn't be my choice particularly. The Ortofon Blue is a decent cartridge in any case. As to streaming, what phone/tablet do you have? Your Yamaha already has some features....

I've never used a center clamp or weight, they just strike me as audiophoolery (a clamp I suppose might help with some particular warped records but I simply got rid of such warped lps myself). Do you think the cartridge/stylus exerts enough force on the vinyl to make it slip in the first place? My tt came with a rubber mat stock (on a metallic platter), never had an interest in an acrylic platter myself but doubt if they sell them that way if they need further, but ask the record player manufacturer if the surface of the platter is so slick that it's useless without some weight or different mat.....if the turntable has adjustable arm height then adding thickness to the platter should be able to be compensated for at least....

I've been involved in audio since before stereo. I have a significant collection of vinyl records. I have dubbed them all to CD, so I never play them any longer. I play the digital dubs instead. I do marvel at how an obsolete recorded medium continues to thrive. I'm with lovinthehd above. I would pass on vinyl records unless you already own them.
