The long teeth biting people to drink their blood should have given it away. Plus their logo of party all night, sleep all day, live forever hinted at the nature of the film.

Near Dark was an instant classic with Bill Paxton. "I hate it when they ain't been shaved". That just might be the film to change your mind about the genre.
LOL meant before starting to watch the movie....where was Bill biiting?

I wanted to really love this flick. It started out really strong and the music was awesome. However the story was lost once the vampire scenes came into play. Instead of weaving vampires into the story and using it to heighten the story, it became the story.

The really weird thing I noticed that the aspect ratio changes back and forth in the production.

I had a similar impression. The first half really drew me in, as it took the time to develop the characters and establish the atmosphere; however, the horror elements came to the fore so abruptly that the film began to feel like two different movies. The vampire concept itself didn't bother me, but I wish the narrative had leaned more heavily on the themes introduced at the start.

As for the aspect ratio, that was a deliberate creative choice. The format shifts in certain scenes, so if you’re watching the 4K disc and the image expands and contracts, it’s not a malfunction of your TV or player. Whether audiences appreciate this approach is debatable, but it certainly stands out while watching.
