good guys: 50 points

that's why :D
Was a Christmas eve inserdent so they'd Emptyd out every money draw the tab money draw and all the pokies

My first thought is I'd have a really hard time killing someone over money, but a lot would depend on their manner during the robbery. They could probably quickly convince me that the world would be a better place without them... if they tried!
didn't Cross my mind twice is shoot the person with the gun pointed at the side of my head saying its a bad day to own a tavern

Hey Guys, thanks for all the kind thoughts / words.
Dad is home, picked him up yesterday. He had a kidney removed due to cancer.

It was never about the small amount of money. My wife and mom also gave (yet undisclosed, to me) :D amounts of money.
My mom is in her 70's, and I remember the look on her face when the nurse confirmed my suspicions.

Thanks!...with the help of all here, I've resigned ourselves to thinking we did the right thing; knowing what did at that time.
This site has always been been so much more than Audio / Video and HT.

I hope that he makes a speedy recovery. Did they get out all of the cancerous tissue, at least that they know of?

Well, duh. There's also innuendo and inappropriate pictures. :D

See, there is nice people in Jersey.

In Florida you would have been robbed and raped.

(I know Rick is disappointed now)

Thanks Adam!

The Doc took the whole kidney just to make sure. He has to go for check-ups every 3 or 4 months.
He spent 20 days in the hospital over the Christmas holidays for his first surgery.
This was his third and hopefully final surgery over the last two years.

Let's even up that score. ;)

If you want to, PM me your address and a movie or album that you'd like for Christmas. If it's on Amazon, you should have it by Wednesday. :)
That's really very nice of you Adam.

I'm a little worried about the "S" storm of jealousy that would ensue, if Alex and Doug knew you had my home address.

:D:p

You get points for being genuinely helpful. She loses points for being a scam artist. A guy asked me for money saying he was homeless and someone slashed his bike tires while he slept. I looked at his beat up bike and it had brand new tires on it, so I sort of believed him. He was also completely drunk. I gave him a buck knowing he was just going to buy alcohol, but that's up to him. Then he starts ranting about the Connecticut shootings and says "Yeah, we won't see HIM in heaven. I will see you though. You are good people."

So you can look at it as you got scammed or you can just say that you did your part (because in your mind, you were helping), even if the other person was being completely deceitful. She'll get hers, because people who live like that, don't usually win in the end.

There's another homeless guy that hangs out around a place I frequent for lunch. He hits up people in the parking lot for money. I brought him a bottle of water one day when it was hot and offered to get him some food. He said "no thanks, I need money" which I presume means: food won't get me drunk. I haven't given him money since, and he does not approach me anymore.

If someone comes at me with a weapon, all bets are off, I'm dropping them. 10 years spent in the military and half of it overseas (including Iraq) I know how to keep my cool, aim straight, and put holes in people.

Hope your father has a quick and full recovery. My father in law is battling lung cancer right now, and it is very stressful time for the family. I am thankful though for the time in history we do live in and medicine being as advanced as it is. We are seeing positive results and John has actually gained weight the last couple months.

The way I see it is everyone has issues. And if a couple bucks from me brings them a little comfort even the Southern then I don't mind.

Last weekend my wife and I went to see Dave Koz at the Bass Hall, awesome concert BTW, at the best venue. We decide to park on the street and as soon as we got out, a guy came to us with the "same ole story". I kicked him in the nuts, rolled him and took 2 bucks from him...

I also hope your Dad is doing well Rick.

BTW...I made up some of that story, I really gave him 5 bucks and told him to keep an eye on my car. It's the best way to keep the same guy from breaking into your car. I told him he would get 5 more if he was still watching my car when I returned. He was gone but my car was untouched.

Dude you're lucky they didn't pull a gun on you or something.
I think they are lucky they didn't pull a gun on me lol, I CCW and I am very alert, while no one can be 100% protected all the time, I will settle for my 99.999 lol...
But you are correct, you never know what is going to happen, but when you change how you treat other people because of fear, you already lost... Although I will be more careful who I help in the future, I will still help people...

While we are on the subject... if anyone is able to help someone, here is a good one... While I am lucky enough not to directly know anyone with immediate family as victims, I know a lot of people from the area and it is a sin what the community is going through rite now...

As far as using deadly force to protect money and property, there are a lot of factors to factor.... But when it comes to protecting your family and self, deadly force goes with out thought... I think a lot of people say "I will kill someone for trying to rob me", but what if it was your son who fell on hard times and thought it was his only option to rob someone, would you want some cowboy shooting him dead over $300 at the ATM machine? Its a tough call, hopefully Im never put in that situation, while Im ready for it, I hope my judgement will keep me safe and the barrel cool... Plus they take your gun forever, I use my Wilson Combat custom elite as a ccw, I paid $6800 for that thing it would suck to lose it over a $2500 watch that I scratched the **** out of trying to change a truck battery in the dark......

I've written this a few times, but I also would not try to kill someone over stealing something from me that doesn't endanger anyone's life. They can walk out the front door holding my TV with my gun trained on them, and I'll let them go (with a call to the police). However, once I think it's a choice between their life and the life of an innocent, then it's no contest. Lift a leg to kick Niki, and I'll put as many rounds through the front of the TV into their chest as it takes.

You don't have to kill him!

Just shoot his leg off, video tape playing fetch, tug of war, and Niki gnawing on it for a few hours, then send the DVD for the guy and his buddies to watch in prison!
Everybody likes videos of a friendly, playful dog!

Dude, that's just so totally...sexist. :p

The minor flaw in that approach is that Niki would then have a taste for human flesh...and I sleep in the same house as her. :D

Rick, you did a good deed - doesn't matter that they didn't deserve your kindness. Better that you give the money to someone who doesn't deserve it, than ignore someone who is truly in need. :)

Oh, and I hope your dad is doing well.

If you shoot someone, they will come to your residence and remove ALL firearms from you, not just the one used. I read on a site regarding lethal force and they quite specifically said it does not state anywhere that they will be returned to you either.

Not to mention, you cannot protect PROPERTY with lethal force, and you also cannot harm someone after the threat has ended. If you shoot someone who is fleeing and they die, you will be charged with murder. You may not be convicted depending on circumstances, but I wouldn't take that bet over something that can be replaced.
