WRT "They're offering nothing in exchange." and, he's blaming Ukraine.

As a paranoid person who trusts nobody, he would want that buffer between NATO and Russia but it's not a realistic demand in light of the past Russia/USSR aggression.

I have seen that Russian oil amounts to about 10% for the US- I'm sure we could make up the difference somewhere.......

As my Ukrainian friend has said, "I wouldn't trust him for a second".

Is that all they want? Until they come up with something else? And, will they rebuild the whole country on Russi'as tab?

Sanctions as well has to follow international and national laws, obviously, so just banning import of Russian gas/oil can expose the government for damages incurred.

45% of US oil imports come from Canada. We have the 3rd largest oil reserves on the planet, so we could probably spare a bit more.

The profit margin is smaller, certainly. But, that doesn't make it more expensive to buy - price is determined by the markets. In fact, since that oil is far from tide water, the only practical customer is the US, who can purchase it at a discount for that very reason.

Indeed. My related posts should not be interpreted as meaning I support more consumption. We really need to be transitioning from fossil fuels more quickly.

People almost stopped driving in 2020 and oil prices went negative. Certainly don't have to stop but yes, a reduction could have an immediate impact.

According to what I heard on CBC news, it would take up to 4 years to get a pipeline from Newfoundland operative. I am not against it, as what is not imported by Germany from Russia would not affect environment while our export would just change the oil route to Europe.

yep and just south of that region in our country is the Balkan shale oil, much easier to get to the surface !

On the long run, that would be good but expensive? Certainly not an immediate relief.

These appear to be pretty decent in terms of accuracy, but I do not have any direct knowledge so take it with a grain of salt.

I'm interested in any other OSINT sources people are aware of?

It's hard to say what the total numbers are, but it's clear from the videos posted by the OSINT people that the Russians are losing a significant number of military vehicles, aircraft, etc. Unfortunately (at least from my perspective), the Ukrainian forces are also losing vehicles, civilian areas are getting hit hard, and many innocent people are dying.

I also ran across a few Russian government videos on YouTube. When I enter the Russian text in google translate, the description of almost every video includes the word "Nazis" and the description basically lays on a load of cr*p to the effect that the Russian military is liberating the Ukrainians from the Nazis. It's really bizarre.
