Yeah, I paid mucho $$$ to send her to university to come back "highly educated". First thing I did was cut her (my) credit card up when she came home.
Life will teach her differently eventually. If not, it will probably mean she struck it rich somehow.
Future is unwritten.

I have one in university now. Doesn't seem to have a clue about value for money.

Crazy isn't it. Back when I was in high school, in my area, we had two very effective classes that they do not teach now. Home Economics(budgeting & using a bank account, etc) and Shop. Shop was a class where you learned basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical or automobile repair. Even the girls had to take it.

The thing is, the increase in engine fuel efficiency over the past few decades has been remarkable. But, instead taking advantage of these new technologies to reduce fuel consumption, Americans (and Canadians, to a lesser extent) have simply bought larger, more powerful, vehicles (especially pickups) and negating the increased efficiency. I wonder what effect it would have on overall fuel consumption if the people who drove pickups because they wanted them vice needed them had chosen smaller vehicles...

I wonder how much of this can be blamed on the big three auto makers and the petroleum companies for not wanting to go more environmentally friendly more agressively. The hydrogen fuel cell has been around for a very long time, is more efficient and easier on the economy than electric vehicles and far more environmentally friendly then the toxicity of batteries in electric vehicles.

Yes, that has been back and forth a few days now, and hopefully it comes through fast enough. It is also an escalation in the EU/NATO military support.

The clues get pieced together really quickly once they are living on their own. My two kids who have left the nest more than 5 years ago have become rather adept in finding ways to save money. I turned off the money tap but will help them out in emergency situations as they now realize the value of saving.

This may have been mentioned in this thread previously, but OSINT sources have been reporting that U.S. B52s have been flying missions over Romania near the boarder with Ukraine. This has been covered to some extend by the MSM (e.g. CNN) so it's not a huge secret, but the OSINT sources provide updated info on the flights much more frequently. How significant is this? I really do not know, but it does seem to be at least in part a message to Putin (i have no inside knowledge, and I'm not a military expert).

I also ran across a few Russian government videos on YouTube. When I enter the Russian text in google translate, the description of almost every video includes the word "Nazis" and the description basically lays on a load of cr*p to the effect that the Russian military is liberating the Ukrainians from the Nazis. It's really bizarre.

Not sure what one would expect from them.

Perhaps lessons learned on your own is worth more than being drilled into you? It's hard but it is in ROM, I think.

I don't think Shop was mandatory where I'm from but do remember it being available. Wish I had taken it and is more valuable in the long run than most what's in school. I know Economics was around then.

Edit: in a way I think having a lemonade stand as a kid is still one of the more valuable lessons at that age.

Generationally speaking I doubt ANYONE on this forum knows what sacrifice / suffering really is. The enabling BS has gotten worse with each succeeding generation, starting with the 'boomers' , yes I'm one of them...

Most likely. I saw them once in 82 or 83 but the late 70s and 80s were rather kaleidoscope for me....

This latest generation(smart phone) is the worse prepared both physically and mentally but its not their fault, its ours.
