Ruipro Fiber Optic HDMI a bust when it comes to warranty support

I purchased the Ruipro 33ft Fiber Optic Cable back in 2022 and it recently started to fail.

  • These cables are not cheap at about $156.00 at the time.
  • What surprised me is that they only have a 5-year warranty (that has finally changed to lifetime).
  • After 3 attempts to contact via email. They only have a WhatsApp message and email as contact options, no reply
I know people have had success with their cables, but I will no longer be purchasing from them as they don't seem to want to stand behind their product, even though mine is still under warranty. Looking for alternative suggestions for cable.

Who did you order the cable from, as their warranty is vendor dependent?

One other question. What are you powering that cable from, a voltage inserter, or or do you have an HDMI version 2.1a? If you are not powering it from either of those two methods, then more likely your HDMI port is failing and actually it could even take down your HDMI board.

  • Purchased from Amazon (Seller is listed as Ruipro)
  • My HDMI is from my TV to my Anthem AVM70 8K Version (in wall)
  • Product Link: Cable 33'
  • It was connected to my Sony XR-77A80J which has 2.1 HDMI (not sure its 2.1a)
  • Video is fine, audio breaks up on movies played on HBO MAX, VUDU, Sony's Hi-Bit Streaming Services etc
  • My understanding is that 2.1a is more commonly used on Laptops, etc for power saving, not so much on TVs, this is news to me
I was not aware that I need a voltage inserter as it is not indicated with the cable.

Troubleshooted the following;
  • My cable is in wall, but I got a secondary HDMI Cable connected AVR to TV with it, and issue resolved
  • Factory reset my AVM70 and started from scratch, issues persisted with Ruipro
  • Factory reset my TV.
  • I use eARC and it worked perfectly until about 4-5 months ago

I should have said HDMI 2.1a and HDMI 2.3 version. Depending on the date of your unit the HDMI version will be either 2.1 or 2.3. Only the HDMI 2.3 version can power a Ruipro cable or any active cable without serious damage to the HDMI board occuring.

This is a confusing issue, and causes a lot of damage to HDMI boards.

Active cables like Ruipro draw 300 ma to power the converters.

Only HDMI versions 2.1a and 2.3 provide 300 ma, all other versions only provide 50 ma. So unless you use a voltage inserter with all ports other than 2.1a or 2.3 serious damage will occur to the HDMI board over time or even right away.

Which version your AVM 70 has depends on its age, but should be marked on the port your Ruipro cable is connected to. Earlier versions of the AVM 70 had 2.1 ports and CAN NOT safely power cables like Ruipro. Later versions have HDMI 2.3 and can safely power your Ruipro cable.

So when I was using my Marantz 7705 and then the 7706 I used a voltage inserter. My Marantz AV 10 has HDMI 2.3 and I have dispensed with the voltage inserter.

I installed a Ruipro active cable the same length as yours in 2019, and it is still working fine with zero issues.

So the bottom line is, if your AVM 70 has HDMI 2.1 then you have almost certainly have an issue with your HDMI board and not the cable.

By the way, if there should be a problem with the cable, then Ruipro warranty is via Amazon.

If you connected the cable to an HDMI 2.1 socket, I can pretty much bet your problem is not the Ruipro cable.

Ok I have the latest HDMI board when I upgraded the AVM70 to 8k. According to specs it is The Anthem AVM 70 8K AV processor features an advanced HDMI 2.1 platform with HDCP 2.3. I never heard of HDMI 2.3, so want to make sure I have the correct terminology. It only impacts audio

I googled the Marantz, it also use HDMI 2.1

The Marantz AV 10 (often referred to as AVM10) uses the HDMI 2.1 standard on all its inputs and outputs. It features 7 HDMI inputs and 3 HDMI outputs (including one for Zone 2), supporting 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz video pass-through with HDCP 2.3.

I did get the pre pro about a year after production and it was the 4k Model. The Ruprio worked great with it back then.

Rupiro got back to me to tell me the cable is not in stock and offered me a lesser quality one, so I let them know I was not happy.

In that case you absolutely need a voltage inserter as HDMI 2.1 can not power an active cable. A new cable very likely will not solve your problem. You will be very lucky if you don't already have a damaged HDMI board. I think your problem is more likely due to problems with your HDMI board than the cable. Powering an active cable with any other versions of HDMI 2.1a or 2.3 never turns out well.

Not sure I understand that, because I should be able to take legal action against the cable manufacture who state it works with HDMI 2.1. As Stated the Marantz is 2.1. You had that cable before you had the Marantz and the 7706 was an earlier model.

I did already reach out to Anthem to get clarification, but as stated, i don't have issues with sound when I use a non active cable (albiet a shorter 20ft run). It really lends me to think it is the cable. I have 0 video issues with the cable, only occasional audio dropouts.

I have been googling for a long time and do see too many instances where it damages the HDMI ports. We shall see as I purchased a new cable and my LG G5 comes in tomorrow

Problem solved! Fortunately, not a bad HDMI Port! Anthem Got back to me less than 12 hours with a response that seemed to fix the problem: Posted below: (I will not fault him on poor spelling), :)

Kudos to Anthem Support, they have always been very responsive and helpful when I have had issues.

Hello Robert,

It is unlikely to be related to a bad HDMI port but probably an EDID issue.

Likely what you are experiencing is being caused by the lack of HDMI handshaking which is typically caused by an error with the EDID negotiation between the source device(s) and the display(s) in use. When integrating a unit in between that has no video processing (such as our receivers) the source(s) and display(s) need to report the same EDID value in order for the handshake to complete.


Please ensure the following settings are matching on the sources and ALL connected displays (and are not set to Auto negotiate):

  1. Resolution supported (1080P, 4K30, 4k60/UHD etc.)
  2. HDR/Dynamic Range (HDR 10, HDR 10+, Dolby Vision etc.)
  3. EDID Mode (Projectors, typically labelled as A, B, C and relate to the supported resolution)
It is also advised to connect projectors via the HDMI Out 2 on the unit. If you have a Sony display, please also ensure that the HDMI Signal Format setting is set to Enhanced or higher. Also on LG displays, please ensure the HDMI Deep colour setting is set to On for higher resolutions and colour depth/chroma sampling capabilities.

To make sure that you do not have a DSP conflict please set up your Earc input as follows, this will tell teh AVM 70 to play back all signals in their native foirmat. You can then use the Mode buttoin on the remote to select an alternate DSP as desired.
