Aren't you just going to get the 4308 anyway?
Everyone and their grandma has a 3808 these days.

Naw man, I don't really have a Denon, I just like to talk up random AVRs and see how many people I can get to buy them. Last month I did it with the Yamaha 3800 and the month before was the Onk 805. My record was 11 with the Yammy but I think I will do better with the Denon and all the fake pictures and talking about things it wont really do:eek::eek::eek::eek::p

I was surprised it worked really. Not sure if it was for the sake of a sale, moving inventory, or if they were just in a good mood. But if it's something you would be happy with I would recommend trying it, make sure they know it's an authorized dealer and that you have to call to order and get pricing (not just a website), and I guess be prepared to leave if they say no. It was slow in there too, so it may work betterr during the week than a busy weekend. Good luck with whatever you do, too bad I won't get it til next week, I won't be able to offer any comparisons to the 7002 yet, but I expect the sound quality to very close with additional features- upscaling, better Audyssey, networking, etc.

It really is an awesome AVR.

Armaraas,

Give me the Best Buy demographics that you purchased from so I can take it to my BB and get a hundred bucks back.

Here's the store-
Oakdale MN (Store 15)
8301 3rd St N
Oakdale, MN 55128
Phone: 651-739-1899

And the matched the AVS special pricing from 6ave.com. That is an ongoing price according to 6ave, there is no expiration for it, so they should be able to call and verify it anytime if they want. Do you think that will be enough for you? Or are you going to need a copy of the receipt or something?

No man, that's plenty for me. I will come home with an extra 100 bucks for sure.

Thanks!

So I am just about a hair away from picking up the phone and calling 6th Ave to get that 1099 price on the AVR-3808...especially since Denon has that new promotion that you get a free upgrade pack if you purchase a new unit currently, which I saw on there website....does anyone know what this is?? It adds Audyssey dynamic volume and dynamic EQ and some other things....Is this just a firmware update that they are giving for free to new buyers????

Hopefully someone can chime in who has gotten it already, I believe it is an update that some users have had to pay $100 for. I was thinking I probably would not pay for it, but if it is included with sales for the next month as incentive I'll certainly take it. I know one of the features, the dynamic volume is to level out the volume between tv shows and loud commercials I believe.
The other features I am less certain of or was thinking I would not be using them. Maybe if Dawg or someone else has gotten this they'll be able to explain it more.

Denon has "package upgrades" which you can purchase, firmware updates are free. It is probably just some crap that you don't need but might as well take it for free.

I think mine may have came with dynamic volume as commercials are quiter than they were with my last AVR.

Get your AVR already!

So...I pulled the trigger today and I went with the 3808ci...as good as the price is on the 2808 right now...I figured that it's always good to upgrade if you can I will certainly be keeping this unit for some time....:D I am so stoked to get it in and it will be nice to get the free Denon upgrade pack that has all the Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume...we'll see if those features actually work or just interfere or color the sound...

In any event...this thread went on for a while but I did learn a good bit and I thank you all...Also, I was really put off with 6th Ave Electornics....those guys don't have a clue...I called and was answered to what sounded like a frat party and when started asking some questions---found out that I knew more than the sales people there....I would avoid them like the plague...IMHO....J & R honored their forum price and are extremely professional and prompt....so yet another 3808ci drops for $1099....:D

Oh goodness........there can't be all that many now....definitely seems to be the most solid of all the receivers we were talking about...but if there is anything glaring that I should be aware of while installing and setting-up please feel free to let me know...

Just noticed you are a texas man, how bout that TX/OU game today!

Just messing with you, the AVR is awesome. The only thing that seems strange is the clarity of the center. For some reason I can't get the dialog clear during movies, it is much better when I turn off the Audessy but still not what I was getting off of my two Yamahas. I haven't messed with it much but something seems weird.

Congratulations on your purchase! I hope it works out for both of us!

Today we had to return the 7002, about 50 miles away, so on the way there we stopped at BB. Asked if another store had the 3808 in stock along our way that we could just stop and pick it up rather than waiting for it to come in next week. The guy looked and said there was 1 store that might have 1 or 2, but he said it could be an issue with them giving it up since the price I got it at was a manager's disgression. I said that's ok, I'll wait then.
15 minutes later on the road, I get a call from BB that the receivers in!!

So we returned the 7002, took over a half an hour to get the sales guy attention away from a potential sale. Another guy tried to help me, but saw what I had and said it was closeout, I can't return it unless I'm exchanging. Should have seen the looks I got from my wife when she overheard that...when the other guy finally got back to me though he took it back without any issues, in fact they already had it sold again.

Anyway, just hooked up the 3808, damn it's a heavy receiver. It's connected, listening to Norah Jones, did some manual setup for the speakers. I need to meet some friends online here shortly for a game, and am going to the Vikings game tomorrow so it might be a while before fully setup.

I like it so far, however the remote isn't impressive, the least intuitive of the 3 receivers I've had recently.

Chopin, not sure if you have 7.1 or not, but if you do you need to go into Amp Setup in the menu, and change the setup to 7.1 rather than zone 2 or something...just FYI to save you some time maybe, took me a bit to figure it out, otherwise it doesn't let you setup the surround backs like the others.

Testing out a new AVR with Norah Jones is similar to watching the Vikings and call it football!.....

Them's fightin' words, fella.

:D I kinda think of the Vikings as my team, but I don't follow football at all...and I mean at all.

Yeah I'm stoked....hopefully J&R's shipping is fast, but it's all good as I didn't have pay the 8.25% Texas sales tax. Actually Paradigm, I am a SC boy and have just been in Houston for school....which is why I'm used to only 5% sales tax. However, I am slowly starting to see myself as a Texan as I probably will not be leaving.

And thanks for the heads up on the 7.1....that was the same deal in the set-up as my avr-987....but I only have 5.1....I am think another set up surrounds would be an excellent X-mas gift from the parents or girlfriend....;)
