I think you lose the ability to overlay 1080p over HDMI vs. the 3808.

Yeah, I had been looking at the Onkyos, both the 805 and 875, but I have read too many scary things about the reliability issues...which is a shame as they make nice products with some great features...particularly the Onkyo having HQV Reon which you have to go all the way to the 5308 to get in the Denon...

So what are the video capabilities compared between the 2808 and 3808...???

So I have narrowed down the choices on the receiver decision and would like a little input and where to go now. I will list them in with some comments on each:

Denon 2808ci -- $595 -- This can be had at such a great price I put it at the top of the list. Although it only has 2 HDMI's

Onkyo TX-SR875 -- $879 -- Lots of power, inputs, and HVQ Reon processing...

Marantz SR7002 -- $869 -- Marantz quality, 4 HDMI, 110 watts, THX, no video upscaling on board however

Onkyo 805 -- $579 -- Power and inputs, although I have reservations due to reading about reliability and heat issues....

You thoughts are greatly appreciated....

Man, you just can't go wrong with any of those and you could also throw in some Yamaha and Elites to add to your confusion. Since Pioneer just released the SC series, you could pick up a 92 or 94 dirt cheap and have a lot of AVR for a little money.

It comes down to having the features you want/need.

Well I definitely don't want to add to my already confused state...lol...these seem to be the most solid....just can't seem to decide which to pull the trigger on...

Name the 3 most important things to you in an AVR.

Hmmm...ok well lets see...the top three would be:

1. Sound Quality
2. Connectivity
3. Video Capabilities

All are fine with sound and connectibity. What do you need the video section to do?

Well my complex is only setup for SD Direct TV so capability to provide upscaling on that would be great for when I want to watch a movie through it or something special....but I would not use the receiver exclusively with watching TV...

Ok, here is what I would do...

You have already bought one AVR and are upgrading just a year latter. This time around, increase your budget and get the one you really want. To me (I know, you know, what I am going to say)it would be the 3808 as it has everything you are looking for. My second choice would be the Marantz SR7002 but it only upscales to 480p. The 3808 and the 7002 has about the same street price so if you search around online, you may be able to find a deal on the 3808. AccuDT posted a link to one for around 900 bucks and I think it was from an auth. dealer.

Do you know where I could find that link by chance???

It was in one of my threads but my threads seem to be long and go way off subject:D

I will PM him and see if he remembers. He is always good at finding deals.

I just noticed you have a Panny plasma. None of the AVRs you are looking at will upscale better than that...

Crap, decided to watch a little TV during lunch and my HD Sat box wouldn't come on. I touched it and it's about 500 degrees!

Okay, this is what I would do on the Denon AVR-3808CI.

First, take a look at this link here:

http://www.dakmart.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=denon+avr-3808CI&osCsid=kt5gld7v69oe5gd091r1843sh0

Then call Jacque @ J&R Music World # 800-806-1115 (Jacque's Ext # 1015).

My Denon dealer will match any deals from Dakmart.com. And J&R will match any deals from my Dealer.:D

So I just tell Jacque that my Dealer can get me the 3808CI for $969, and he will match it right away.:D

Here’s a quick tip, if you think you may want the 7002 or price matters in your decision greatly. Ebay has their thing right now (check the deals section) where you go through live.com to search for something and if you buy it now you will get 30% cash back if you use paypal. If you search for the marantz 7002 you will find it for $869 with the buy it now option from the same seller you’re already looking at…

I have had the 7002 for a couple of days now and have 4 more days to decide to keep it. It’s not without its quirks, but so far I haven’t found anything that makes me want to give it back (paid $999 new). I let my paypal account get disabled after it was hacked last year. :(

Yeah, I checked tht out but it looks like you have to go through alot on nonsense for it to work...I read the find print which was overly convoluted and it just struck me as shady...I tend to go with the notion that 'if it's too good to be true....it is.' I will look at it again, but I did the search and the 30% discount is a $200 max....so essentially it is 200 at this price level...

Dang, now for that I am thinking about the Denon, thanks a lot.
The Denon would be a little cheaper than the 7002 for me...if I went with the Denon I wouldn't be giving up any features other than questionable THX, but gaining more features right?

Sorry, don't mean to hijack your thread, but since I am looking at the same receivers...maybe it's pertinent.

I would just have to think of a good excuse to bring back the Marantz. The guy was supposed to give me a demo unit so I could return it without opening a new one, but he couldn't find the demo's accessories so gave me a new one instead.

Armaraas....do you know the credibility of that 30% discount through live....do you know if it does indeed work because if so then I would certainly give it a shot...???

I would just call Dt's dealer and do what he said, that way you have the Denon from an auth. dealer at a fair price.
