Reavon (Oppo replacement)

I wonder if that is the smartest move on Panasonic's part not to include SACD in their package or does Sony hold the license for that technology which they do explains why Panny doesn't include it. Does Sony play DVD-A discs?
I wouldn't know details about the conflict between the two manufacturers. It's obvious that Panasonic lose sales because their players don't play SACDs or DVD-As. I like the reliability of their products. By the way, the Sony UBP players however also play DVD-A discs.

Panasonics do not support DVD-AUDIO or SACD. This makes the feature set and price combo of the Sony X800M2 the best value for a disc player.

A writer in an earlier post suggested that Reavon was simply a Oppo knock-off. I found the thing rather clunky, and the remote left a lot to be desired. I think the main problem with Reavon is there lack of Dealer / retail back-up. With regard to any warranty claims. They've never really taken off with the buying public. Most people are lazy, and don't want to search round to find a retailer. They simply want to pay the cost and go home with there new model.

As far as price goes Lazer on special at your local retailer even our local Australia Post outlet have them at $29. each And they play just about everything, Internet up-dates are available Someone once suggested that you buy three of them, One in use, one in repair, and one in the post.

On the subject of multi Analogue outputs. One make / model that seams to be forgot is the Harman Kardon DVD 47, while these are now somewhat dated, they did have a full set of Analogue RCA connects plus a lone HDMI, and some thing which is probably unknown to the American market is a SCART [[ European models only ]] connection. Which unlike the HDMI connection also carries a Trigger connection. As I say they are dated, But they do turn up on the used market from time to time.

I did more digging into the Reavon and found a review with measurements. The Oppo was the only universal disc player and since its demise, Reavon has now become the only universal player. However, based on this review, its no Oppo in performance.

The Sony UBP-X800M2 is also a universal disc player, as the article mentions. The Sony is the far better value of the two players.

No, the Sony UBP-X800m2 is also a universal player and it's the only sensible choice and at a good price.

That Sony UBP-X800m2 has one very annoying quirk: It won't autodetect Dolby Vision so you've to manually enable/disable that in the players menu. For me that is a show stopper.

I was hoping that could be fixed with a firmware update but that has not happened yet, sadly, nor any updated UBP-X800m3.

Se here I am considering the Magnetar UDP800 as a replacement for my Oppo BDP-93EU that I bought in 2011 as a universal player as I've a number of SACD. The issue with the Oppo is that I've to disable "HDMI Deep Color" in the LG OLED TV to have any sound but then I don't get Dolby Vision from my AppleTV I bought two years ago. The result is that we use the Oppe player much less than we used to.

However, the Magnetar UDP800 is very expensive and have analog out that I wont ever use as I would only use it as a transport.

Edit: One possibility is to buy the Sony UBP-X800m2 for SACD/CD only and then Panasonic DP-UB820 for UHD Blue-ray (or similar) when I actually buy a new Blu-rah UHD movie in Dolby Vision. That would be ca half the price compared to the Magnetar UDP800.

Well, I don't find the need for Dolby Vision so the Sony would satisfy my requirements.

I got the Sony UBP-X800m2 a couple of days ago and so far works fine with SACD as well as Blu-ray movies. So my Oppo BDP-93EU I bought 13 years ago will go to storage.

The Sony was easily added and integrated with my Logitech Harmony universal remote, though it has fewer available commands. Most importantly in the Logitech database there was discrete commands for power on and power off, which should give less issues when powering my system on/off or changing activity. UI, configuration and command wise the old Oppo is far ahead of the Sony.

Is weird with a player with no display. It will not autoplay SACD.

I’ve exactly one Blu-ray UHD disc and that one only has HDR, so thus far missing Dolby Vision autodetect does not bother me.

And yeah, I got the player at a very good price.

I bought the UHD release of the Lord of the Rings, and it looks great in Dolby Vision. It also reminds me, again, how bad the streaming services are with their excessive compression producing numerous artifacts like banding.

Although Reavon's high end sister brand Magnetar has been mentioned a very few times in this thread, I should tell you that the more ruggedly built Magnetar players(particularly the UDP-900) come very close to fully replacing the Oppo players. Don't get me wrong. I own several Oppo players(BDP-83,BDP-105D & UDP-205) and I prefer Oppo , but I also own a Magnetar UDP-900. If a consumer had to choose between a used Oppo or a new Magnetar, go for the Magnetar. But note that since Magnetar took over their own U.S. distribution, that(for legal reasons) the region free units are no longer offered in the U.S.A., though of course dealers can modify the unit;'s hardware or firmware for region free operation. Ask your local dealer.

You don't need to spend a ton of money on a disc player. That is Audiophoolery. The quality is likely inversely proportional to the cost like CD players.

Yes he does, If he can afford it. Your only here once, enjoy it while you can.
That is Audiophoolery.
So your still promoting the same old chestnut, about what's good value and what's not. Next thing we know you'll be promoting yourself , with photo's of what you consider a sound system. Keep on dreaming, Sunshine.

Just out of interest, there's a used Gryphon Mikado Signature cd Player, on another selling forum that I'm considering for $10.000 [aus] These things rarely come on the second hand market. And for the record there latest model the "Ethose" is around 60k [aus]

Show me hard data that the low cost player will send a better digital stream to your AVR or whatever than one costing thousands. Next don't forget about error correction. Yes, drop a drop out error correction is actually perfect. Science is on my side and not yours. That is the end of story. Can I say you are also very rude!

Is there supposed to be a question here?

Either way, those are absurd prices for a CD player.

My you are quick on the up-take by way of a reply,, Must have something to prove. And for the record I don't own an AVR. All my systems are Pre-mono

As for being rude, Aussie's call things the way they are, And if you think I'm rude, Sunshine I'm not even getting started. You wouldn't last five minutes in my world.
