Really Boring Stuff Only III: Resurrection

ALWAYS use jack stands when I'm under the car. I actually had a 3 ton jack from Harbor freight fail on me and the jack stands saved the day. Thankfully, I wasn't under the car at the time. I use ramps too, for stuff like what you're saying.

If I do get a job soon, I'd probably feel going back to work will be a vacation

Anyone ever use jack stands. I'm looking to get a pair so I can fix my skid plate and bumper cover.
I've been using jack stands for long than I care to admit. :D
Any specific questions?
I use a rolling floor jack to lift the car and slide the stands under.
Just a thought.... maybe drive up ramps may be an option.

Or, you could save your money and just dig a pit in your driveway...:D

It never occurred to me that pain meds could actually be used to manage pain. I thought they were just a good time. I went to see the dentist and now my knees don't hurt. Seems like a good time to check out used gear. Where is that CC?

For some reason Matt is no longer selling his 4311. CL doesn't have anything interesting and Audiogon doesn't have anything within my current credit limit. Is this divine intervention?

I think it's just a sign that you should up your CC limit.

The CC people seem to have some trust issues when it comes to me. Maybe you could teach me to be more trust worthy. Send me a bunch of gear and I'll pay you later. I think I just need the practice.

Not sure if I'm being helpful or just poking the credit bear. :p

6 months no payments, no interest when using Paypal.

No refurbs for me. I'd rather buy a used local product that works at a reduced price. It's not that I'm scared of paying for return shipping on a defective product and it's not that I'm afraid of wasting all that time hooking up gear, trouble shooting it and packing it back up for a drive to UPS. It's not the hours wasted on emails and it's not being without a system for a month at a clip.

It's the brief instant that my impotent rage would give anything to rip the face off the f^%&nut that thought selling me their broke sh!t was a good idea. I can't go through that. As soon as 4K and apple mind control take hold, those 4311 dinosaurs will be popping up for short money.

I love having a redbox nearby. I go and rent some BD's for $2 and change, rip them with makeMKV, and voila. BD quality files that can be burned or streamed easy peasy.

They make these store type things called auto shops that do stuff like that for you....
... and you don't even need those when you drive new vehicles.

Back to the jack stands and auto repairs for those not so rich and famous.

Stay out of Harbor Freight. Any money you don't spend in there is free money to put toward something that is worth owning. If you want to live with garbage, get a banana peel and sleep with it next to you on your pillow for a couple of nights.

Sears has nice little jack and stand combo's in plastic cases for easy storage/portability which count for a lot. As a condo dweller I don't have room for that stuff but I maintain close relationships with people like Greg, who do have that kind of space.

The youtube videos make it look so easy and we know youtube never lies. :) I actually like doing things with my hands. I spend all week sitting at a desk and typing on a keyboard.

If I may add a little to what Alex said.
One common mistake is to use the jack to hold up the car the entire time and using the stands under the car as a safety precaution if the jack fails.
That's wrong.
Use the jack only to lift and lower the car; let the stands support the weight of the car.
Get stands that are tall enough if you happen to be raising a 4WD truck with more ground clearance. You don't want to use small stands set at their max height.
