I just peurchase a MartinLogan Dynamo sub and I am somewhat confused on the best way to set it up. Should I use LFE? Whats the best way to set it up for movies and the best way for music. What is the best cable hat would give me optimal sound.

Thanks for any help and comments on these questions.

Most cabels carry the same signal and won't really improve your sound. Just make sure the cable is well shielded & insulated to keep it from other sources electronic interference. Setting up the sub is fairly easy set the x-over at 80-100 Hz on the receiver and turn the x-over all the way up on the sub. This allows the receiver to assign the LFE to the sub and the balance of the sound to the speakers. Listening to music and H/T is a bit different music doesn't have as much bass and therefore depends how you set up your front speakers.

PS: If you have more question please include more details like speaker type and receiver. Hope this helps Billy P:)

NOTE: I forgot to mention, don't over spend on the sub cable. $30.00 is considered fair.

here is some more info

Hey thanks for the info. I have a Kenwood VR6070. I have the speaker set up on the reciever on small because I have in wall small speakers. It is also is on auto detect and pick up the sub as LFE. I was not sure what I should set the sub on as far as crossover ect. I thought when it was on LFE you lose the manual control over the sub? I am using half of a RCA cable running from sub out into the LFE on the sub. I am sure I should buy a cable made for just LFE right? I do get a small bit of noise from the sub. So I should set the crossover on the sub all the way up? I will also look on my reciever to try to set the hz as you stated. I have never seen that option but it may be there. Again, will the LFE take over everthing even if you manually set it? Billy... thanks for your help. I am trying to slowly move to higher end equipment but I am trying to understand this sub and how it will work best with my set up.

since you elaborated some more on your set up. Setting the speakers to small is correct and turning the subs crossover all the way up disables it. The receiver you mentioned I'm not familiar with, but most newer receivers have an adjustable crossover option, if yours doesn't don't worry. The receiver will know the default setting and then send all signals below its set point to the sub and above to the speaker. Most people set the x-over between 80-100 Hz it's all a matter of taste. As far as the static or noise goes, I think a proper sub cable will help and any further question just ask.

Good luck, Billy p

Welcome Cleaner

Welcome to the forums, and be advised you have bought a realy great sub. I have the same one in my bedroom. First and foremost you must get a decent cable. Obviously you can buy one from any of the regular stores but be prepared for sticker shock. If you can wait a couple of days for shipment I would suggest www.monoprice.com bluejeans cable etc. They ship really quick and man you can save a ton of money. Cables are outrageously marked up at the chain stores. It will make you sick how much they are marked up. But get yourself a good cable. Once you get it adjusted you will find a really great sub, especially for music.
