Question about Restoring a Computer

To clarify, I don't actually push play. I just double click on the file and it plays from Media Player.

When I play an LP, 99% of the time, it's all the way through (unless I'm at TLSGuy's place, then it's selected tracks), so I record them that way. I used to go one side, one file. Now, it's one LP - one file. So it's fine not necessarily using itunes. I'd have to use some kind of player like itunes if I had individual tracks as files.
Btw, that thing melted. In seconds, there is no doubt it would have been smoking. Thank God, I avoided a potential disaster. I do have two fire extinguishers in the house. I hope I never need them!

I have never copied my LPs to hard drive. I like the nostalgic experience of handling my old LPs, and some are very old. I enjoy the art work on LP sleeves. There is just pleasure in placing the LP on the turntable, and then the Dust Bug, then dropping the stylus down with the lift, and advancing the volume control of the Quad preamp to that turntable. It is a ritual that keeps me in contact with my history. Lastly the quality generally tells me of the expertise of the engineers of that bygone era. In many instances they did a better job because they were career professionals and not "jobbers".

I agree with all of that. I do play my records I have taped. But also enjoy playing the recordings too, because it's a fun project. I will likely never finish it. There is probably 5% of my collection that I don't need or want them recorded. Also, I can drag a file onto a usb drive and play it in the 2-channel room where there is no turntable. I bet you can see that as a benefit to this long-term project.

If anyone needs a new computer (a very nice one!), jump on this deal now! I can recommend this Lenovo that I bought. No way in heck could I have done better. Costco has a new price again. 2nd change since I bought it. First, it went up $150. Now it went $100 below what I paid! It is now $699 for a 32 GB unit! Other brands go $1500-1700. Although, there may be other Black Friday deals out there, I doubt you'll find one better than this.
Costco refunded me $100 yesterday, btw, so that was awesome.
