Question about focal chorus line

I’ll be quick.

I have focal chorus 726 tower speakers and the matching center channel. My surrounds are from Martin Logan that I got for real cheap. I’ve been wanting to get a complete matching set and get the appropriate focal chorus surround speakers and there’s someone near me selling a pair of focal chorus 705V bookshelf speakers. My question is, will these blend well with the focal speakers I have? The ones I have are the ones they did after the V series and am not sure if they would be a tonal match or not because I haven’t been able to find anything concrete that tells me what the differences are between the models, if any. I was hoping someone who’s more familiar with this series could tell me. Thanks in advance.

Surround speakers are quite easy to get right.

If they look great with your current Focal speakers, then I say go for it.

Unless you can find the same line of Focal speakers, it’s the next best thing.

But if there is a “next time”, I would buy the entire system all at once.

Tonal matching the front with surrounds is not that big of a deal. That said, I’m a big focal fan and currently have Chorus V’s and previously had Chorus. The V is much brighter and you will notice it. It’ll take a bit of EQ to balance them and make them not harsh

Do they measure “bright”? Like have a +6dB peak around 10kHz?

lol, just a little bright. Luckily they can be EQ fairly easily but I’d rather start with something a bit more neutral and only deal with the room and not the room and speaker.

Listen to some rock with a lot of symbols. That’ll tell you everything you need to know

Noted. I did wind up getting them, just haven’t had the chance to set them up and try them out yet.

They’re just for surround sound anyway. Not going to even notice any “brightness” in surround effects (even if they are).

There’s a couple streaming shows right now that have a ton of surround music and special effects, feels like they even have a few db’s of gain. Pretty annoying honestly.

We got all day. What’s your story?

I’ll try not to make it long. When I had initially got the Focal chorus 726 speakers, I was into 2 channel audio and had no intention of going beyond that. It wasn’t until a co worker lent me a bunch of his old DTS cd’s to rip for myself that I I initially got the bug to get more speakers which also led to me getting into home theater. At the same time i discovered the Martin Logan motion speaker series . I had never heard a Martin Logan, but was always interested in them. I saw them, loved the way they looked, noticed they were more expensive and this is where the stupid part comes in, I just assumed those would be better and after reading some reviews, I just started buying them, no auditioning, no nothing just blind buying. First I got the center channel, followed a little later by their bookshelf speakers for surrounds. So for a while, that was my 5.1 setup, the focal’s as mains with Martin logan’s as center and surrounds. It was extremely disappointing . The center stood out like a sore thumb and it was impossible to ignore. I also discovered while trying things out, like taking the focals out and using the Martin Logan bookshelves as mains with the matching center and a sub, I just didn’t like them as much as the focals, so I gave the bookshelf speakers to my cousin, I still have the center channel upstairs put away, and went back to spending more money to get the matching stuff I should have just done the first place. I didn’t get the exact match, but for the center I got the chorus CC800V which was from the previous line of chorus speakers and just having that similarity has made the experience so much Better.
