Pulled the Trigger; No Longer Different

I mean the only reason to even go analog separate components was to get better Specs - I mean better Sound.

But these days, the receivers & pre-pros (Denon 3808, Integra 9.8, etc.) seem to have at least as good of Specs as any analog separates, unless we go into the Mark Levinson & Krell $$$$ territory.

Actually, if there was any single complaint about the 9.8, its precisely the analog performance. Not that its terrible, but just not quite up to par with the digital performance. There's quite a healthy thread(s) over at AVS dedicated to 9.8 users who are coupling them to 2-ch analog pre/pro's with HT bypass (unity gain).

Nevertheless, congrats on one serious receiver!!

I'm way too lazy to check out AVS threads, but I'm guessing that a lot of people hook up the Analog L/R Inputs, but don't use Pure Direct Mode. This would forces the 9.8 to use the Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) for Bass Management. Then it has to go through the DAC.

I bet if they used Pure Direct Mode + Analog Inputs, it would sound just as good since it would bypass all ADCs & DACs.

However, I would just hook up the HDMI 1.3 Inputs and not even worry about anymore analog. I think I've had my ample shares of Analog to last a long time.

It's ALL DIGITAL HDMI now.

Roger That AcuDefTechGuy! When I get my Emotiva UMC-1 I have 4 HDMI components to hook up to its 5 HDMI ports, and BOOM I'm done wiring.

But for now, I plan on just getting the flagship Denon Receivers everytime they come out with a new one.

So how often is that, anyway? Like every 3 years?

AccuDT buys more crap than anyone I know. It's funny as he always says he is going to slow down and not buy anything for a while right before he makes the big purchases.

This is it, though. No, really. No more big purchases for at least 1 year. Really.

I already have my eye on a cute 8.9" laptop from J&R for only $350. I'll put this on one of the empty shelves.

Now if Denon were to come out with a new flagship Blu-ray/SACD/DVD-A/CD Universal player in 2009, that's a different story. I don't think I could resist.

Well, it's good to have high-quality components like Denon and Definitive Speakers.

I mean in 4 yrs when Denon comes out with a new flagship receiver, I bet the AVR-5308CI will sell pretty fast.

When I was selling the DVD-5910CI, I received tons of emails.

Now if I were to put my Definitive speakers on eBay, people would be begging me to sell them.
