Problem with Diamond 8.4

Hi all!

I just got a second hand pair of wharfedales diamond 8.4
They were supposed to work perfect before I got them but today I set up the whole system and the surprise is that one of the speakers is not working. Well, actully it sounds, just the woofer, and really low and bad. I've tried plugin the bananas of the other speaker(directly the signal that the other speaker was getting) and... definitely the problem is with the speaker.

Any ideas on this? Should I try opening the cap on back (where the bananas are plugged in) and sneak around?

Besides, I'm testing the "healthy" speaker and now I've some doubts.
Of the 3 "drivers", the mid-range driver is the only one going crazy. The woofer doesn't vibrate, I don't feel mucho movement going on with it. I've changed the setting to power up the bass and down the trebble, but the woofer still doesn't vibrate. Is this normal?

Thanx!

Javier

I know this may sound like a stupid question and please dont take offense.

Are you using the metal strips (links) between the terminals? It sounds like you're not bi-wiring nor bi-amping so they should be in place. And the problem sounds like only half the drivers are running.

Form the instruction manual:

"Separate terminals are provided for feeding the low and high-frequency drive units. You will see that the red terminals are connected together, as are the black; by two metal links. If you wish to use the system conventionally leave the links in place and connect to the amplifier as shown in the diagram. However improved performance can be obtained by either bi-wiring or bi- amping the speakers. To do this, first remove the metal links connecting the pairs of terminals. In the case of bi-wiring connect each of the red terminals on the speaker via separate cables to the red output terminal on the amplifier. Repeat the process for the black terminals. Take care that the left channel outputs are fed to the left hand speakers and similarly for the right hand side. Bi-amping is similar to the above but requires the use of two stereo amplifiers as shown in the diagram."

Hi!

Dont worry, no ofense. I'm very new to all this. This is my first real system... but I see I'm not very lucky.

Yes, the metal strips are connecting the 2 red terminals and the 2 black ones. Without the metal strips nothing at all sounds (one banana goes to the HF on connector of one color and the other to LF of the other color)

I don't see much more to play around with.

If I connect the bananas directly to the LF connectors, the good speakers sounds a lot better than the other one. So I guess it's something else than the connections. So I don't know if opening the back cover might help me to find something.

Thanks!

Would you mind letting us know what you are driving the speakers with? Brand and model of receiver/amplifier/pre-amp?

I just want to make sure it's not something simple before we start taking things apart. Also, do you trust the source where you got them second hand?

I have connected my laptop to a NAD C352 with Profigold cables (5 meters) and then the amplifier is connected to the wharfedales with tara labs klara prism cables (5 meters)

Yesterday I was looking everywhere in the speakers, but the construction looks quite robust and everything looks in place, is not that you shake them and can hear something loose inside.

I don't know what else to check

Thanx a lot for your help.

Hi!!

Now I've been doing some more checks and...
in one speaker works the woofer and in the other the mid-range and tweeter (just the opposite).

Strange... so none of the speakers fully works.

Am I missing anything??

Doesn't sound like it. It seems like the speakers are boned. Have you tried them with any other amps/sources/cables and interconnects?
Ruled everything else out?
