thanks mulester, i get it about the speaker ... what about the amp? the HK AVR235 gives out 50watts and the yamaha rx-v 750 gives out 100watts. HE says that even though the yamaha has 100 watts it is ONLY EQUIVALENT to the HK's 50 watts ... his reason: something about HK churning out the 50watts at 1khz? whats that about?
.....Mike, his claim, is that the receiver's output wattage was rated directly and only, at a cycle-level of 1000 hz, opposed to 20-20k range....not that big a factor in my book....listen, listen, listen, as you match receivers with different speakers....take them to reference levels....you will know when you hear what you want, and "abispo" on the salesman's opinions....he's making money, for sure not spending it....don't think for one minute pushing you toward certain speakers/receivers, can't put more commission in his pocket......

The reason of the soft accurate bass of the infinity is the 10" small box compared to a 12". And it has a less lower frequency response (means it will not go as low and you will not feel the sonic wave as much) It retails for 399. the JBL retails for 599.

I have auditioned the infinity, and it was good. But IMO the JBL was the better bargain.

.....Mike, from the different ways Buck has described what the Cadence X-Sub will do, I would not hesitate to order one.....my application for small cannons warrants that I give sealed enclosures every chance for quickness and accuracy, though....I still may end up with two X-Subs for $500 in the middle sorta', I don't know, but it's for sure I want SVS in the corners....

Wow, the system looks like it rocks. I just got the center last week and my towers get here on thursday. They look soo good with the grills off. Have you put in a bass cd to see how low that sub can go?

Spittyfast,
I think that you will be pleased with the towers-NICE CHOICE. The 3 piece up front matches well and dispurses sound well among the 3 during movies.
I havn't tested a base cd yet. I'm back to movies right now. I am having the worst time figuring out which setting to use when playing movies from this Yamaha receiver. There are just too many sound fields too choose from. DTS, THX, movie, adventure, general, etc etc.

well, the HK receivers DO look nice, but i've tried the yamaha rx-v 640 before and i have no complaints about it. which puts me in this bind. problem with listening is, i might not be able to audition both on the same day because the two stores are at 2 different malls. hmmm. what i WILL do is audition the primus floorstanding spks.

in fairness, he doesnt even want me to buy the front floor standing speakers. he says my room size (4m x 4.5m used area not actually room size) is good for bookshelf(s) only.

....I see, Mike, well good for the salesman....but....I say any room 10X10 would do well to have floorstanders "raised" in the front, and bookshelves in the rear from the same timbre-matching models, best chances, and the bookshelves be 2-way for resolved mids to add to the more resolved usually highs in a floor-stander....your fronts and rears CAN, not only timbre with each other well, but compliment each other.....

.....guys, I tried this on the left channel half-heartedly a month ago, and that was stupid since my pre-amp needs a little attention on the left channel, but tonight I decided to really put up or shut up with this double mains stuff....I put on Dazz Band's Greatest, cut 5, and listened for awhile to the right front with the left front sitting beside the right touching it, with short 18 inch 10 ga wires ends-stripped hanging from the posts of the left awaiting connection....I listened to the same 90 second segment about 3 times, then stepped behind the two speakers with a flashlight and reading glasses, haha, SHUT UP!, YOUR DAY'S COMING, haha.....with the 90 second segment begun again right before I stepped in, I first hung the plus wire on the post of the active speaker's plus, and grabbed the hanging left....the instant I touched it to the active speaker's minus post, I was suddenly swamped with a sensation of MUCH fuller sound....most noticeable in the mids-lows....I stepped back out in front of the paralleled mains, and the authority and fullness, and crispness, was there top-to-bottom that wasn't there before I stepped in....sure it was a couple of db's louder, but not from attenuation, but a take-over by paralleled watts....will try different stuff tomorrow when I can reference-level....the spot of imaging went from a volley-ball to a beachball....hold up on the slave amps....if you guys got a receiver that would handle 4 ohms fine and are running 8 ohm mains, just a pair of speakers could be a cheap option....get off your butts and carry a 60 pound speaker across the room and try what I'm trying, for goodness sakes....what's wrong with 'ya?....tin-eared NEANDERTHALS......

Subwoofer poll: Yamaha YST-SW315 or JBL E-250 or Infinity PS-10

yamaha 10" down firing (with 4 direction dispersion)
jbl 12" front firing
infinity 10" front firing

all 250 watts. which would you pick?

With the money I just saved you on the THX question, you may want to consider the HSU VTF-3 or the SVS PB12-ISD
Other than that, you already know my pick of the 12" over the 2 10" you chose.

I see that you live overseas, however you could find these on eBay on occasion. And there is another area that is constantly selling other equipment. Just can't remember the place. Also people like me are always wanting to upgrade, I would be happy to sell overseas and mark item as gift or however you want. To keep customs charges as low as possible. Hey you bought it for someone as a B-Day gift :) But I don't have any equipment you would want at the moment. However you can check the classifieds here and ask if the person is will to ship overseas.
I have some equipment there now, but nothing your looking for.
As soon as I get my new sub, I will be selling the E-250p.
But I am kinda waiting on B-stock SVS PB12-ISD/V for about 650.00

EDIT:::BTW SVS does offer international shipping. And HSU has 3 areas other than U.S. (maybe contact them for special shipping)

i dont trust the postal system here even with snail mail. so im sticking with brands that are available locally. and of course i already have my hands full with the choices at hand.

i seem to remember to have chosen the yamaha amp over the pioneer amp (before) because of my speaker choice which was 8 ohms at the time

partial comparison

for example on the front LR speakers... which one is better based on frequency range 38hz-20khz 30hz-35khz.

in db sensitivity ... which is better a higher or lower number?

well those are just claimed ranges anyway and I dont think most ppl can even hear above 20khz. If you plan on using a sub, then it will take care of the low end anyway so you dont have to worry about your speakers carrying the load for anything lower than 80-60hz depending on how you set your system up. So really it doesnt matter what the freq. range is if it fits into your overall system design, plus just b/c they are claimed to perform in those ranges it doesnt really tell you if where in the range they perform well. Just go listen and let your ears decide.
