Paradigms for Infinity Beta's

A couple of months ago, a friend of mine purchased a pair of Infinity Beta 20's with a Beta 250 center channel brand new. After listening to my Paradigm Monitor 5's and CC370 cc speaker he offered an even trade. My paradigms are over 3 years old but in pristine condition.

I'm going over to listen to them tonight but thought I would get some feedback beforehand.

So what do you guys think. Good trade, bad trade, or lateral trade.

You'll have to listen for yourself. I know he's your friend, but something seems weird about wanting to trade systems...is there something wrong with his?

I have not heard those Paradigms, but the Infinity Beta line is a great speaker for the $. If you like the Infinity's better, trade em'. If not, not.

Side noe: Trading with someone (friend or not) can sometimes result in bad feelings if the other party ever wants their gear back.

depends solely on your listening tastes.

and he could be hearing something he doesn't want with the betas.

Thanks for the feedback. I went last night and listened to them and decided to keep the Paradigms. To me they sounded smooth but no better and no worse than the Paradigms. I think his problem with the Betas is the room they're in. He has these in a medium to large family room with no wall treatments, window treatments, and hardwood floors with no rugs. I told him to check out this site and with something to deaden the room reflections, I think he might be hapy with what he has.

However, I spoke to the wife who gave me the green light to buy new speakers this year.:) :) :). I will be demoing, demoing, and more demoing.

I want to either keep it to shops aroung home (Chicago area) or with good on-line reviews may try some that I can demo at home.

So far on the short list: Paradigm Studios, B&W 700 series, & Focal.

I'm looking to stay with a bookshelf style speaker with a smooth sound. I will be using these 75% of the time for music.

Anything you recommend that I shouldn't miss demoing?

Thanks again
Jake

You might want to take a look at ACI Sapphire XL's. They seem to be exactly like you're looking for...smooth, musical, and in a lovely cabinet.

Congrats on the permission ;) and happy hunting.

NHT Evolution M5 and M6. I preferred them over the Studios, plus you use the same speaker for L, R & C.

Sweet! Have fun. It's so much easier when you're not thinking about what you're going to say when you get home with more boxes.
:D

second zumbo's recommendation. though I have never heard the GS10 from MA, I heard it was a B&W 7 series beater.

but maybe you can upgrade your sub too ...
