Would you like fries with that "Big Mac"

thank you for your kind words,we love how great all the mac gear performs.
Since 1959 I have been bathed in, surrounded by, saturated with, force fed, and rinsed off with music of all types, live as well as recorded, not to mention the writing of it, the playing of it, learning theory (like it or not) Performing with a band, (parents made me play trumpet all through school). I have been a guitar player for 41 years, my father was concert violinist, my mother was awesome pianist, all 4 sisters play violin or piano.

When I was 18 I joined the Navy and was trained for years (while in military) on "The Physics of Sound", "Acoustic Engineering", "Underwater Sound Propogation and the Deep Sound Channel Axis", I basically was taught by the Navy all there is to know about sound in order to be able to design better equipment capable of tracking nuclear submarines or any vessel that could be considered a threat to our security (the USA). No joking we had an array or more commonly known to civilians as a row of microphones pointing in a certain direction and located in the "Deep Sound Channel Axis" which is an area in the ocean where sound waves literally become trapped and loose almost 0 energy due to differentials in the water pressure vs. water temperature so at lower frequencies they can travel for thousands of miles and still be detected. It was so sensitive that we could hear a "Minke" whale pass gas 5500 miles away. I used Minke whale as a reference because for some reason when a Minke whale expels air it has a signature (signature is what we called the marks generated by the target on the graphing equipment connected to the array) that appeared to be a Russian Nuclear Submarine. My job was to use all the info they gave me to detect, track and notify the proper personel whenever a threat was even a remote possibility (there were many false alarms due to the complexity of our system as well as the fact that so many vessel had simalar signatures). Many times the strength and the order of the harmonics most visible were the determining factor. Also to design mounting structures, figure ways to isolate vibrations and reduce rotating mass frequency signatures, reduce resonance from pumps and motors and anything else that makes noise in order to make it impossible for others to detect our Submarines.

The point I am trying to make in this long history of my life is that I am serious about anything related to sound reproduction and have the knowledge (thanks to the Navy training) and 30 years of self motivated study of everything from Quantum Physics to very complex mathmatics just because I had a serious desire to understand at the most basic level (molecular) the science behind any subject that could help me be able to build a better sounding speaker. All that coupled with a burning desire to build (inherent in my basic gene structure I guess) things led to my unending search for the perfect audio system. Three and a half years ago my neck and back were damage in a car crash and were repaired with titanium plates and screws and since have been unemployed so I took what I had availabe to me (knowledge, speaker parts, empty bank account and a need to feed my two sons) and went full tilt boogie into trying to sell some nice speakers and create a customer base that will spread the word. If not for all the desire to know about speakers I woiuld have lost my house and probobly my family by now.

All that being said, I would like you to consider the following statement,

Your system to me is appears to be (if I had monius unlimitus, Greek for wealthy he, he) the one that I picked out for myself. And in case you missed thats one hell of a compliment. I have listened to speakers costing 40,000 and up on many occasions. Even they, all of them seem to miss a little something somewhere, but I love the purity of a Mac to Mac setup. And yours is one of the most attractive I've seen. I know people that use Krell with what I like to call the "Big Mac" speakers and its not the same. Its almost like McIntosh designed their amp to play their speakers better than it will play someone elses. I think it must have a sensor and if it senses mac to mac it adds something to the mix that makes it click.

Well I have said enough, but I had to write a severe compliment on a system that obviously cost a fortune and to keep it pure McIntosh is to me worth the 30 minutes it took to type this. I dont type very well since my neck injury. My guitar playing has gone way downhill as well. So I hope you enjoy your audio listening time as much as I value mine. One of the conditions of my marriage proposal, and I am serious, was that I had no limits on me in any way as far as how many hours or when I could just go to my listening room and enjoy the fruits of my labors. Allthough now my fruits look more like raisins than the grapes I envisioned before seeing your system.

This is my first post on this forum. I joined today, usually I am at the PE Tech forums doling out info of some sort. So I promise not to write a book every time.

Have a good day and enjoy your audio as often as possible. They say its like having a pet. It can relax you and create harmony lower your stress and actually give you a couple extra years of life.

Jeff,what a thoughtfull post,thank you:)

I too love the big mac speakers, the designer 'roger russell' did an outstanding job with them & they continue to make me happy every time i hear them & thats something ive yet to find in any other speaker.

The main system constantly changes due to the volume of different gear i run through but as you can see im a mcintosh fan for life:)

Hey hh,

That system is a real testamonial. I wanted to ask you about those isolation pads. Did you buy them at Granger? Obviously they are there for a reason. Would you be good enough to give me a brief run down on what they do for you. I am looking for something just like that to wall mount some speakers. I've got a thread in loudspeakers posted if that's a better place to answer. Thanks.

Hi alex, thank you for your compliment,to be as truthfull as possible about the isolation pads i use i have several reasons for using them,my main reason is that the factory feet on my gear tend to slide a bit if the gear is moved & i did not want them to leave marks on my equipment racks.

The other reason i use them is mainly for added isolation from the rack to the cd players, the pics dont tell the whole story in that system or room,in 2 corners that cant be seen there were 2 klipsch corner horns & along a wall not pictured there was a passive dual 12" sub ,with all the gear & speakers going the sound levels were unbelievable with pounding bass so i did not want the pounding to transfer into the cd players.

The isolation feet i use are very very cheap & work well,i think they are priced at 4 pcs for $10,i keep records in a computer file on everything ive ever bought for my systems so give me a while & ill dig out where i ordered them from & get you the contact info.

If for some reason they are not made any longer i can send you enough pcs for what you want to do with them as i have atleast 40 extra pcs.

HH,

I found the link in the turkey section but am back here because I wanted see if you wanted to sell like 20 of yours. 40 extra of anything is funny. If you're interested PM me an address and a price. I'll send you a USPS MO priority mail on Monday. The reason I want these is for sound control as described here:

I specifically remember commenting on this ...
I remember saying that I loved the analog meters of the McIntosh, anyway, for my official comment:

HOLY $HIT BATMAN!

that looks like a McIntosh showroom ... and looks like the price of my house :D very very nice collection, must have been a long and hard audio travel to get there.

Hi alex, ive been at this hobby for a long long time so i have extra everything to the point of excess.

I dont mind sending you what you need but i'd like to be clear on exactly what it is your trying to do with sound control,i think i read where your wanting to decouple your speakers from the wall they are mounted to in an attempt to lessen the sound transfer to your neighbors.

I will pm you & we can discuss your exact needs & if you still feel that these isolation feet will work for you i'll dig em out & send them your way.

A pm is comming in the AM.

Nice setup there HFH. But those amps look a little small. And only 1200 wpc? You need bigger amps.:D I bet that's one sweet sounding system. Congratulations.

Very nice. I always wanted a set of the MAC speakers. Just couldn't get my tight a$$ to pull the trigger, and take out my wallet.

Very sweet set-up, even at 1 megapix.

Unbelievable system. I would imagine the dynamic capability is unreal.
Been a fan of MAC gear, specifically the amps, since 1980. Maybe one day.............

I don't doubt that your system sounds incredible. I've just never been able to get into Mac gear. I can't stand the "70's porno movie" look of their stuff.

As oposed to the beautifly styled mass market gear that all looks no different sitting in the rack than a vcr,or amplifier manufacturers who's idea of "style" is a plain black face:rolleyes:

To each his own i guess.
