From your suggestions, made progress. TV ”expert” sound settings switched from pcm to auto. Speakers came to life, but the music was coming from the speakers and the voices from the tv, and the volumes didn’t sync.

Progress is good but answering questions so that everybody is on the same page is even better. To which optical port on the receiver is the cable connected? It helps to have all of the facts.

If the TV Sound output setting is set at Audio Out/Optical, there should not be sound coming from the TV speakers at all when using the Smart apps or any device connected directly to the TV. There should only be sound produced from the receiver’s speakers.

I just got rid of cable. When I had it, my Yamaha htr6030 worked fine using optical from my cable box. Since box is gone I hooked up the optical cable directly to my Samsung smart tv.I set the tv to optical, tried every combination of settings on the Yamaha and still can’t get sound to the remote speakers. Can anyone guide me? Tried another new cable already.

Check the input on your manual for your avr and make sure it’s the correct one you hook the optical too. Then it should work ?
