Optical issues

I just got rid of cable. When I had it, my Yamaha htr6030 worked fine using optical from my cable box. Since box is gone I hooked up the optical cable directly to my Samsung smart tv.I set the tv to optical, tried every combination of settings on the Yamaha and still can’t get sound to the remote speakers. Can anyone guide me? Tried another new cable already.

Remote speakers? You mean the speakers hooked up to the avr? Did you check input assignment in the avr to make sure for that input it is set to use the optical port you're using? What model of tv is it? Always helps to know all the gear involved....

Did you keep the optical cable in the same port as it was for the cable box and keep the same source assignment?

No option on the avr that says “optical input”, just device descriptions. Set to tv but I have tried them all.

There should have been no changes to the optical assignment when changing out the cable box optical connection for the tv optical connection. You should still select the DTV/CBL source input for the audio coming from the TV if there have not been any changes to the port assignments since connecting the TV to an optical port.

The remote speakers statement still has me scratching my head. It might help to know how each device in the system is connected to the receiver and the TV.

Tv is fed via Wi-Fi. Optical cable goes to the Yamaha unit that is wired to two speakers

Looking at your tv manual it has a digital output format setting, what do you have yours set to?

Ok, the TV is already set to optical so that is that regardless if it is outputting PCM or Dolby Digital. When you are trying to stream something from the TV's apps or from the antenna, if connected, what is the Yamaha set to as the input source? Also, to which optical port is the optical cable connected in the back of the Yamaha?

There are two optical ports on the back of the Yamaha, Which one of the ports is being used, the optical port labeled CD or the optical port labeled DTV/CBL?
