Optical Cables or RCA Cables?

When hooking up my satellite box to my Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver are the RCA's sufficient or should I use the optical out? Likewise, are the optical cables necessary when hooking up to my HDTV (Sony) or are the component cables sufficient?

If you use the optical out, you will get DD 5.1, when available. If you use the two analog RCA connections, you will only get stereo.

Are you using the speakers in your TV, or do you have a seperate sound system?

I am using a Yamaha RX-V2500 with 5 B&W speakers (front, center & surround) and an amplified B&W subwoofer.
