Nah, I'm not that much of a conspiracy theorist...

The Umik1 is the most popular on the US market, and it also happens to be very reasonably priced... so an easy product to recommend.

For those of us in other parts of the world, it can be a lot less of a bargain.

I have a somewhat more elderly calibration mic that requires a mic preamp - and my old mic-pre is PCI interface PC based - so not usable on my laptop where I run Dirac....so for now I am sticking with the AVR's supplied puck mic.

Yeah Dayton is probably not as well known...and there aren't a lot of others around that price point....

EMM - which is why it is not getting any use at the moment, I don't have a suitable USB mic-pre

Those two have the same design/circuitry, same volume control, DAC and opamps, and the power amps, based on what I consider reliable indicators would be identical, so go figure..

That isn't true. the 3700h has a AKM DAC while the 3800h has a Texas Instruments DAC. These two receivers were tested and the 3700h measured cleaner/better all around. I'm not implying that means the 3700h sounds better. Maybe just a little different. Maybe

What I said was mostly true, but it sounded like you didn't know that since the spring of 2021, the 3700 units manufactured after that, have the same TI chip that the 3800 has because of the akm chips shortage resuled from the factory fire.

Regardless, even if the dac chip is different, that is not relevant to my point about that reviewer being totally subjective, his talks about sq cannot be taken seriously. Anyway, my comments were mainly just tongue in cheek, ni big deal.

Yes I did know about the AKM fire and all the companies that had to change DAC chips in their products. I can say I mostly agree with your comments about Amir and Andrew Robinson.
