Gettin' Serious!!

I'm just gettin' started in the Home Theater stuff. Here's my current (and beginning) setup. I thought it would be nice to watch where I take this thing.

Looks great! I love the racks and the TV (...and the bobblehead). I think it's time for the Audioholics Budget Special Recommendation...and WHO knows what that is? Anyone care to chime in? Or do I have to plug it AGAIN?!

I actually really like your idea of dual AV racks on the sides of your TV.

Lord knows if I had enough cable/room, I'd do the same thing. It'd keep me from stacking my equipment a mile high.

..::UPDATE::..

I've added a Klipsch KSW-10 that Costco had on sale for just under $300 bones and I talked my wife into the necessity that it is. She bought that line of crap at the store but she has since agreed with me and I would go as far as to say she really likes the subwoofer!!

Read the specs here: http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=57&s=specs

I'm no expert - but I'll tell ya - this sub rocks the house. When we built our house about 5 years ago, we built on a foundation and an elevated subfloor. (no pun intended) Because we have nothing below the plywood subfloor you can really feel every critical bassy low. It's quite incredible!!

I have a long way to go but I now have another piece of the puzzle!!

What do you guys think of the Klipsch KSW-10 based on the specs? I'd like to hear your expert opinions.

Thanks!!

BTW:

For those of you who like the audio racks, here is a picture of them. I absolutely fell in love with them when I saw them because they match all of the dark cherry we already have in the room.

I ordered them from a web vendor called FurnitureBuzz.com and the only reason I mention this is because of the superior service, support and delivery I experienced with them. If you are looking for an audio-type furniture device to complement your HT, give these folks a look.

That is one sexy rack!

Subwoofer looks pretty nice too. I'm a little concerned about the power output (55w), but if it rocks the house, then it works!

I'm getting a Hsu STF-1 soon, so we'll see how it goes. Who knows, I might end up with more Hsu stuff in the future...

Very much agree, that is one sexy rack....

Same on the sub. Not knocking it, and if you are happy with its performance then thats what truly matters. However, IMO I would have opted for a 12" sub for that price. But if size was an issue, then the Klipsch 10" was a good choice...

Welcome smeggie! Ive got 2 ksw 12's. Never heard the 10 but if it is anything like the 12 it definetly rocks the house. You will prolly have to tinker around with placement a lot to get a smooth frequ response. These subs tend to be boomy with poor placement.

Thanks guys. Thanks for the welcome, krzywica!! :)

Yeah, it did tend to be a bit boomy however I tinkered with it a bit and the boominess has subsided. It really sizzles with some incredible lows!! The room is large and as I said, I think because of the way the house was built, I am able to enjoy a 10" at least until I get my 12" or pair of 12's!!! (holy crap!! Your neighbors must hate you!! :))

I already have the wife thinking about speakers. What do you guys like for bookshelf-type front and center speakers? (for rear and surrounds, I am likely going to do ceiling mounted)

Thanks for being here and being cool!!

I've got Athena's (which I love to death), but I also like BIC, Energy, Paradigm, Axiom, and RBH.

Yes my neighbors usually only complain when I have a party and I have em all the way up. But I do live in a 3 bedroom House with a big yard on both sides.

Ahhhh the life of a bachelor!

Well before I start randomly throwing out recommendations (I can feel my famous budget system stirring...), a few questions. NO ONE EVER ESCAPES THE SPANISH INQUISITION! (...okay I'm Polish, but...Monty Pyton is funny...)

-How big is your room?
-What's your budget?
-What kind of constraints are there with the WAF (wife acceptance factor)?
-What percentages will be using your system for music/movies/gaming?

I have plenty of ideas, but what I throw out will be determined how you answer the questions above. Choose wiseley...

And lastly, you need to get out and listen! Find the local hi-fi and mid-fi dealers in your area and start listening to speakers. You'll find out what kind of speakers you like very quickly. Just take along some of your favorite music and plop down for some listening sessions. I don't know what kind of music you listen to, but I really like using these CD's as references:

Donald Fagen - The Nightfly (excellent fidelity, one of the first digital recordings)

Steely Dan - Gaucho (Hey Nineteen is a brightness detector...your ears will bleed if a speaker is too bright for you)

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (Shine On You Crazy Diamond is great to test that WALL OF SOUND thing)
