Unfortunately I'm not a good enough Pollock to speak the language (and I'm 50%!). Sorry :eek:

Well before I start randomly throwing out recommendations (I can feel my famous budget system stirring...), a few questions. NO ONE EVER ESCAPES THE SPANISH INQUISITION! (...okay I'm Polish, but...Monty Pyton is funny...)

-How big is your room?
-What's your budget?
-What kind of constraints are there with the WAF (wife acceptance factor)?
-What percentages will be using your system for music/movies/gaming?

I have plenty of ideas, but what I throw out will be determined how you answer the questions above. Choose wiseley...

And lastly, you need to get out and listen! Find the local hi-fi and mid-fi dealers in your area and start listening to speakers. You'll find out what kind of speakers you like very quickly. Just take along some of your favorite music and plop down for some listening sessions. I don't know what kind of music you listen to, but I really like using these CD's as references:

Donald Fagen - The Nightfly (excellent fidelity, one of the first digital recordings)

Steely Dan - Gaucho (Hey Nineteen is a brightness detector...your ears will bleed if a speaker is too bright for you)

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (Shine On You Crazy Diamond is great to test that WALL OF SOUND thing)
Ok, here goes:

-How big is your room?
18'W X 21' D

-What's your budget?
I'd like to look at low cost/High return first

-What kind of constraints are there with the WAF (wife acceptance factor)?
Cost is number one with her

-What percentages will be using your system for music/movies/gaming?
Movies=50% - Music=40% - Gaming=10% (I still need a console gaming system because I am traditionally a PC gamer)

Music tastes range from Yanni to pretty much everything on 525.com (Metal). My tastes are all over the place but my primary flavor these days is music by Staind, Audioslave, Breaking Benjamin, Green Day, Papa Roach, etc.

Looks great! I love the racks and the TV (...and the bobblehead). I think it's time for the Audioholics Budget Special Recommendation...and WHO knows what that is? Anyone care to chime in? Or do I have to plug it AGAIN?!
Hey Jaxvon? I'm still waiting for your speaker recommendations as well as your "Audioholics Budget Special Recommendation", buddy!!

Also, and I failed to mention this before for all of you bobblehead fans out there, but my bobblehead is a bobblehead of Donald Trump (my hero) (it says "You're Fired" on the base) and I got it at a touristy shop in Monterey, CA on Cannery Row by the Aquarium. They have bobbleheads of everyone except me and Jaxvon for whatever reason...

Hahahaha, I don't need a bobblehead.

About that recommendation...it's basically my system (or my wishlist). If you look around you'll find it plugged a lot. Here goes:

2 pr BIC DV62si bookshelves: $241.88 shipped from Amazon
1 BIC DV62CLR Center: $104.99 shipped from Amazon

Subwoofer: You already have that Klipsch one, but there are many others available. I would say save up for an upper-end Hsu or SVS so you really get a mega upgrade. Any of the subs from these places are great values for the money. I have a Hsu STF-1 on the way (a cute lil 8" bugger for my small room, and small budget).

Receiver: Pioneer VSX-1015TX $430 from J&R. It's out of stock right now, but if you call their toll free number, they will give you a better price than the $500 MSRP. This is good, because you should be able to go to your local Best Buy and make them price match.

I'm not sure what you already have for a DVD player, and your TV is freakin' sweet.

The only other investments would be some speaker cable (I recommend 12ga Belden from Westlake), some video cables, some speaker stands, and a cool demo disc to show off your system's capabilities.

Hmm, I did not know you were only going with a 8" sub????
Anyhow, small error on the above quote, The MSRP I beleive is actually $650.00
Click the 1015 link straight to Pioneer in my signature....

Yeah, I was considering the Cadence, but when it came off Ubid, the only place I could find to buy was their site, and the shipping was like $50. I bought the Hsu slightly used, but at a decent discount. Plus, down-firing is preferred for my application. It's much harder for drunken people to damage your woofer when it's pointed down. Since my room is small, and I can corner load it, I should get decent output to 25Hz, which is all I need for now. Eventually though...

..::UPDATE::..

I've added a Klipsch KSW-10 that Costco had on sale for just under $300 bones and I talked my wife into the necessity that it is. She bought that line of crap at the store but she has since agreed with me and I would go as far as to say she really likes the subwoofer!!

Read the specs here: http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=57&s=specs

I'm no expert - but I'll tell ya - this sub rocks the house. When we built our house about 5 years ago, we built on a foundation and an elevated subfloor. (no pun intended) Because we have nothing below the plywood subfloor you can really feel every critical bassy low. It's quite incredible!!

I have a long way to go but I now have another piece of the puzzle!!

What do you guys think of the Klipsch KSW-10 based on the specs? I'd like to hear your expert opinions.

Thanks!!

..::CORRECTION::..

I paid $199 for the Klipsch sub not "under $300" as I mistakenly said above. I found the receipt yesterday. :)
