No Sound Output from speakers connected to DENON AVR X7200W

This Super Bowl I fired up my home theater system connected to a Denon x7200w AVR and my Bowers and Wilkins 703 S3 SPEAKERS AND THERE WAS NO SOUND a bit taken aback since I last used them about 6 months ago, I then did a factory reset and a reboot but still no sound, Monday I called up Denon and went thru the whole process with the trouble shooting guy, who was exceeding helpful.
finally he suggested I should check with the repair shop GEORGE MEYER AV IN LA Ca.
I am really confused, any how opened up the box and looked inside for any fuses or capacitors leakages found no fuses as such to power the speakers alone, and if I am over looking something that I should be aware of, would be very help ful.

Not a lot to work with. So what was the source and how connected? Any electrical issues since last used? The general setup is?All inputs yield same result?

Thanks for the reply the scource is the TV playing Winter Olympics and as soon as TV audio stereo is selected the tv speaker goes silent and the AVR gives no out put. Tried all devices from the front panel same result. Did an Audssey speakers check during trouble shooting and system reboot same messsge “ no speakers found “

If the speakers are connected and you did speaker assign, I would say that AVR is toast and needs recycling. It is an 11 year old receiver, and unfortunately this is often the lifespan of this type of gear or even less.

I have been thinking about this. I suspect the fault is either the LM timer chip or the relay that is activates to connect the speakers. This is the circuit that prevents a turn on thump through the speakers. The timer chip causes and delay and then opens the relay that connects the speakers after everything has stabilized. That is why it says no speakers connected, because they are not.

I would open the unit up and see if you can identify that relay. May be a few well placed taps, might bring it back to life. You could also check the voltage at the relay, and if there no voltage to open the relay, then the LM timer chip is the problem.

After a hard reset, the AVR needs to be set up again, in all ways. Start with the speakers, then try to play the radio- if that works, the amplifier is OK.

Connect the AVR to your network, find its IP address and use a computer to connect to it by entering that address in the computer's search bar. You'll see buttons for setup and it's a lot easier than using the OSD or monitor.

Make sure the Primary ZONE is turned on, not OFF which is easy to do on the remote control.

I've accidentally turned my Primary Zone off before and it would not play anything. I think my 2nd Zone (outside porch speakers) was on.

But if Primary Zone is on and speakers are connected, then I would tend to agree with you - AVR probably toast and anything over 10YR these days is at risk of failure.

I fully agree with you that’s what I suspect the relay is stuck … only if I could get a circuit diagram it would really help .

They are never available, which is a disgrace. However, it is more likely to be the relay, especially after a period if disuse. I think you could track that relay back to the speakers output posts. With relays after a period of disuse, a swift tap can bring them back to life.

The major issue with modern electronics, is that they have no through and through board connections soldered on the opposite side, for a long time. They now use same side soldering with hot air by robots. So that means repair is by board replacement. However, I am somewhat optimistic that if you find that relay and give it a decent rap, it may well come back to life and connect the speakers. If there is no voltage to the input of the relay, then repair is board replacement and at the age of that receiver they will be NLA.

I am 99.9% certain this is either the LM timer chip or the relay. Due to the long period is non use, it is most likely the relay. This could be an easy fix.

I looked at the circuit board of stacked and the third one says Speaker Unit 63101010158 10AS and only one conventional type fuse is there and it was good. No capacitor leaks on the board or distortion of capacitors… stumped.

Work back from the speaker outputs and see if you can identify the speaker relay. The problem is, that these units are thrown together, and quality of construction usually leaves a lot to be desired. That is why these units are generally unfixable and are basically a disgrace.

I am gun shy of those Eastern European sites. The last time I used them was the last. I got hacked right away from a Russian site that put malware onto my computer and worse. It took my expert son hours to unscramble it. I was given strict orders to never go to those sites again.

In any event unless he can find the relay and giving it a good rap solves the issue, that unit is toast.

It can be used as a pre-pro. I don't know enough about the unit to be helpful but those amps can be turned off IIRC. I believe it was the #2 rec'r in their line up. Going through the trouble shooting with their tech support I'm sure he made sure they weren't turned off but that's something I didn't see mentioned in this thread.

Interesting, I have never heard of that in an AVR.
