No one read Stimulus Bill

Does the fact that no one has read the $787 billion stimulus bill, scare anyone?
They rushed it through, and no one has read the over 1,000 page document.

Isn't this the same way Congress rushed through the war, and search for weapons of mass destruction?

Obama, who campaigned promising a more transparent and accountable government, and a system that will let the public track exactly where stimulus money goes, through an Internet-powered search engine.

We were promised "Change" and it seems like we got a bunch of re-treads from the Clinton administration.

Hey didn't we get more change from all the tax cuts. I mean $1000 dollars = a lot of pennies. :D

But Obama said he would bring change to Washington. Gee I wonder what that means. Still he was the best candidate how that other guy even got on the ticket is beyond me. But we had to show the world we could elect a minority and it was a really big deal for many of the people that had been treated like crap in the old days. Plus he will do better with foreign relations.

Honestly I trust the government to govern better than me so I'll let them make the decisions. We have had the same system for a couple of centuries and are the most prosperous nation in the world. Say what you want be pissed all you want, but facts are facts the system works. And if you think our politicians are corrupt take a trip to Africa or Eastern Europe. Our guys are kittens in comparison. Though the Guilded Age is one of the funniest books ever written.

It is just the Dems way of getting their agenda of bigger government. Obama has already reneged on things he promised like posting bills for 48hrs on the website before voteing on them, so much for transparency. I wouldn't sign anything without reading it first but I guess it doesn't matter to the democrats as long as what they each want is in the bill they pretty much don't care about what the people who put them there think. Sad day for America....:(

Obama=Change

Change=Outright Socialism with a Marxist agenda

Everyone wanted change (voting for Obama) but failed to question or ask what that change was. The election for most was anything but republican. The problem is that there really is only one party now. The political elite.

Someone explain how spending 1.487 trillion dollars on failing companies and failing government & policies makes a situation better?

Want an economic boost? Offer 787 billion in tax cuts and downsize the government instead of making it bigger so that future generations have an even larger tax burden??? That would get people spending in a hurry. It would bail out banks because mortgages & debt get paid off. Then tighten credit standards if need be so that only the responsible can use credit.

NONE of this makes any sense unless a group of people (i.e. a political class) is trying to tighten a power grasp.

Wait a second though? That is all common sense I forgot, that is dead in this country and has been for some time.

I cannot believe most people do not understand what is being done here?? This is not about republican or democrat, this is democracy vs. socialism/communism/marxism. No one seems to get it? In fact due to media based brainwashing, people seem to want it because they are believing propaganda. 1984 is alive in well in the USA.

Here is an example of "newspeak": Stimulus plan= Stimulates the government & makes it larger.

I for one will not stand by and let it happen. I will educate my fellow man for opening one's eyes is the first step in waking up.

End rant!!!

Maybe...

Well, to be fair - not everyone wanted Obama, and not all of the people that did failed to question what the planned changes were. :)

Sorry Adam! :) Fixed!

Let me clarify: Everyone that voted for Obama wanting change!

I cannot believe the fear tactics used by this administration to get legislation pushed through so quickly without question or scrutiny (though there are a select few in the scrutiny camp)!

They can spend every penny they want... All it's going to do is make the economy worse. The money they are spending has basically no backing from the rest of the world, so it's being printed but no one is buying it. It's hurting the economy more than it's helping by weakening an already weak US dollar. This bill is at best a stop gap till next year when we are still in the same place. It sucks to say and it's going to mean more people lose their jobs but this situation needs to get worse before it can get better. I feel for everyone that's having problems with work and or loss their jobs recently, I truly hope things turn around sooner than later.

He talks about 'saving or creating' 3.5-4 million jobs with this bill. That's about $200,000 per job. I'll take some of that money and I'm sure the rest of you will also. That's over double what I make in a year, if not close to 3 times.

Well hopefully we wont completely screw my kids in the future, and that's coming from someone that isn't even planning on having kids for 3-5 years.

New Deal 2.0 here we come.

I don't recall anyone getting to read the first $700,000,000+ stimulus bill before it passed.

Bush said we need and we need it now.

I didn't agree with either so called, stimulus bill.
I commented on how the Rep. & Dems signed off and rushed through Bush's Iraq plan, in my OP.

Bush is gone; so let's talk about the here and now.
Do you have any viable comments, or just pseudo-reasoning?

I don't think anyone will disagree that Elitists have been on the uprise. Clinton was the big push through, then Bush, and now we are in for the fearful ride of our lives for the next 4 years.

It's been going on, and apparently there just aren't enough people that know or care to do anything about it. Pissing and moaning is usually all I ever see from people. I never see someone standing in front of a court house, on the street, or any place getting the word out to people. People need more of a reason to care about their freedom. Many people don't want to work for change (or work at all for that matter) and simply want everything handed to them. Freedom comes with a price, and that price is awareness and working to keep what was granted to Americans on July 4, 1776. We are a nation built by the people and run by the people. We disgrace those who lived in America before Europe even knew this land existed by allowing this degradation. We've taken this land from someone else and now we are trashing it. Imagine how it feels to have an heirloom taken from you that you and your family have taken care of for centuries, then watch in horror as it's destroyed.

Ron Paul 2012!!!!

He's the only canadate that made any sense, and the main stream media ignored him. I remember watching one of the first republican debates and he was ignored to the point where he was laughing because he couldn't get a word in edgewise.

Well, we've read it at our office. We've gotten our hands on various drafts. Here is the proof that not a lot of time, energy, thought, or any other substanative effort went into addressing any real issues that the bill was supposed to address and that it was merely a big F-U by the liberals in Washington to get their pet projects passed to ensure their re-election with a media and administration as their surrogates. If you look at that bill, just about every line item ends with "$XX,000,000,000"

If there was any real thought or concern behind this, there would be more specific numbers: $211,550,250,000 for this meaningless project or $50,150,324,500 for this special interest group, etc.

This is pure folly. I've been trying real hard to like Obama and at least find some way to respect his presidency... so far I simply cannot be pursueded. In the debates, he was talking about the necessity to cut back on his campaign promises due to the economy... now suddenly that's changed and he's raced lightspeed in the other direction. He has used fear and outright lies to further the agenda and continues to have a slobbering media as his surrogate. I could write pages and pages, but I've become so disgusted and actually a bit ashamed of myself because I allowed myself to take a step back and put my skeptiscism aside on this guy and believe that maybe things could be different. I feel somewhat foolish now. I'd like to hear what all the Bush haters have say since Obama and his administration had personafied to nth everything the Bush critics cried about for years.

...and this is why I voted for Annunaki for President! ;) (I still think you should run for office, Rob.)

This "Stimulus" bill is the world's largest Ponzi scheme...ever. That's all it is. "Hey, we've spent so much, we're in trouble. Let's spend a whole lot more to get out of this trouble."

But I know...logical details must be damned. (Logic? What's logic? "I want that money in MY hands" cry the masses...which include politicians, by the way.) Like congress, our school systems have, after all, fallen into the hands of incompetency, so these days wisdom is something we should regard with surprise.

I'll say this for the Nth time...the Republicans have their hands in your right pocket, the Democrats have theirs in your left. They're getting it either way, so scr3w you, Mr. Taxpayer. George Will is an extremely smart man. He has clarified (and agreed with) Obama's current media-blitz message..."My fear is that there is insufficient fear [concerning the global economy, by the populace]!" (But, like Obama, Will buys too far into the two party system as a means for useful governance checks and balances). He believes that the liberal/conservative changing landscape will of its own accord take care of these excesses...or inexcesses, depending upon your point of view.

I regret to post my contrary prediction that nothing but large scale civil disobedience and or violence will be the only result of the current, world-wide political and economic mess. Be it poverty induced riots and consequent reaction in the large, minority based cities such as Los Angeles, or a border intrusion by one country into another (heaven forbid either are nuclear armed)...historically local or international bad economic times have always resulted in protracted local or international violence and/or warfare. (Any history students out there?)

I'll go beyond the usual criticizing or sarcasm in these threads and offer a positive suggestion. It only takes one, small catalyzing act. Anyone remember a certain tax on TEA?! Talk about history changer. During the First Revolution :)cool:), also during the First Depression :)cool:) there were a couple of investments or acquisitions that helped people pull through and even allowed some to thrive...storage of food, alcohol, entertainment, tools, firearms, and personal determination. The forewarned is forearmed.

Per Annunaki...end of rant. Maybe!

I just re-read my last post here. I think some might consider it and me to be 'alarmist'. I prefer to see myself as a person who considers the value of the lessons of history...and to try to learn from them. Further, I think the Boy Scout motto of "Be Prepared" is a fruitful way to make one's path through life.

I'd like to think that what congress is doing is going to manifest itself with the glorious return of the unequaled peace and economic well-being our country has experienced in the last few decades. Who knows...it just might. We can hope. But the voice nagging in the back of my brain echoes that of conservatives and liberals alike (which is why I mentioned Will and Obama in the same sentence). They both fear looming economic and societal chaos...but they themselves don't want to sound 'alarmist' in how they present it or in any way aggravate the landscape. And neither of them know what, nor have much confidence in what the result will be from this and subsequent Spending-Stimulus-SaveTheState bills.

I'd recommend you all do more than hope and pray for the best...that you also prepare in some way for the possibility of a negative and lasting "event".

I think you are on point. If the government is preparing for something rather large, what better way to make themselves bigger "legally" than a "stimulus" package without causing (much) alarm?

Well I just got to thinking more about this and decided to see if I could find it on the web, SCORE, I found it. Pages 9 through 11 are as far as I've gotten and the first with any dollar amounts on them. I like the end of page 11,

SEC. 1108. APPROPRIATION FOR GOVERNMENT ACCOUNT19
ABILITY OFFICE.
20 There is hereby appropriated as an additional amount
21 for ‘‘Government Accountability Office—Salaries and Ex
22 penses’’ $25,000,000, for oversight activities relating to
23 this Act.

Why not allow 25million to pay them to spend money.

Ok well at least I've got my reading for the next few days.
