Newbie: Subwoofer connection Q.

My old receiver though has Dolby Surround, does not have a dedicated sub-out. Right now I am using parallel High Level connection to my Energy S10.3 sub. It works well. But I am curious if there are any better way to do this.
1) Y-splitter cable for pre-outs/main in
2) use the receivers built-in Mono outs?

#2 would be easiest I suppose since it just means connecting a single RCA cable from the mono out from the receiver to the sub-in for the sub.

What do you think?

I really dont see anything wrong with the way you have it hooked up as it is now, Using the speaker level inputs is a perfectly fine way to run a subwoofer(s) in a system that does not have sub outputs. Thats what they're there for.

There is a device called a line level converter that will take speaker wire to a RCA out. Not sure it it is really worth it for this though, since the signal quality is still the same.

I don't mind the speaker level input. I'm just wondering if having wires to the woofer and wires to the speakers from the same Front Speaker Output from the receiver would overload the receiver or not.

No it won't because the power is not being used by the sub, only the signal.

I see... I see. thanks! In this case I'm going to leave it alone. Not liking the idea of crawling behind the HT cabinet again.
