Some good suggestions already given. There are no best speakers as it's a matter of taste. There are however good speakers and bad. Bose being in the latter camp. Take your time with choosing speakers and try and audition as many as you can locally. Most of the manufacturers have dealer locators on their sites. They're the most important component in your system. Bring your own music and take notes; post your impressions here as it helps narrow down which speakers you may like. Also don't be afraid of internet brands as some have suggested like av123, Axiom, HSU, SVS, etc... If you like the small Bose cubes, have a look at Orb Audio. They won't be as good as a system with bookshelves or floorstanders, but will leave Bose in the dust. Cheaper too.
