Which klipsch system did you listen to? I currently own Klipsch synergy which is most likely the line you listened to. I have the Quintet III system, which is most likely the setup you listened to as well. I still use this system except for the fronts, i replaced them with klipsch b-3's. including everything you can even add these on the quintet system and have 7.1 with a much better pair of fronts for $600 less than that bose only needing to add a dvd player. I am happy with my klipsch but am looking to upgrade soon. another reason bose is not so hot, very unupgradable where as a piece together system with a separate receiver and speaker sets will allow you to upgrade to better sounding speakers as funds or the necessity comes available. hope this helps you out as well.

edit: as some of the others have said, klipsch is love it or hate, i know very few people that are in the middle on them, so listen around before pulling the trigger. you don't have to settle, especially on long island with more dealers than you can shake a stick within easy traveling distance.

Definitely put the PS3 on the list. As well as being a gaming system and a Blu-Ray player, it is also a fine upconverting DVD player and will wirelessly stream music, photos and video from your computer and act as an internet browser on your big screen.

Check out SVS and Hsu for subwoofers. These will beat ANYTHING that Best Buy has to offer.

Mazer,

Don't forget he still needs a receiver!!!! Preferably an HDMI receiver to take advantage of the Blu-Ray in the PS3. Onkyo or Yamaha?

That is why I recommended systems from $800 to $2K.

He can get HDMI receivers factory re-fub from www.ubid.com starting at $219 or new Onkyo's starting just over $400.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I already have a PS3 and 360 with HD DVD add on so im covered with those items. Maze thanks for all the choices, it can be overwhelming but my Verizon FIOS tv does not get hooked up until the 31st so i have time to shop. I like the Onkyo receiver, I think i will take another look at the klipshe. I originally did not want to spend 2,000 on speakers so some of Mazes monster speaker suggestions prob wont do. Ideally id like to get the receiver and speaker system in the $1500 range and save $500 bucks from the bose. Like i said i already have the PS3 Blu ray and 360 HD

Let's see:

Hsu STF-2 $349
Onkyo 605 $400
Ascend $1,200 system (per Mazer)
= $1,949 and blows the Bose away

or go with the X-series system (per Mazer) to save the extra cash.

Mazer gave you the receiver and speaker links. The speakers are manufacturer direct. The Hsu subs can be bought HERE

It's not hard to set up at all. The hardest part is getting through the setup menu of modern receivers. The first time you see it, you'll think "Who knew there were so many features on a receiver? What happened to 'plug and play' stereos". But it's all good. It's easy to figure out, especially with the support from the members here.

Some good suggestions already given. There are no best speakers as it's a matter of taste. There are however good speakers and bad. Bose being in the latter camp. Take your time with choosing speakers and try and audition as many as you can locally. Most of the manufacturers have dealer locators on their sites. They're the most important component in your system. Bring your own music and take notes; post your impressions here as it helps narrow down which speakers you may like. Also don't be afraid of internet brands as some have suggested like av123, Axiom, HSU, SVS, etc... If you like the small Bose cubes, have a look at Orb Audio. They won't be as good as a system with bookshelves or floorstanders, but will leave Bose in the dust. Cheaper too.

Or Gallo speakers, small and great at what they do.

You have some very good suggestions on here and the most important thing is you are willing to take the Bose back. If you have to go small then the Orbs or Gallos will fit the bill but use the sub from SVS or HSU. I would highly suggest the use of a bookself on stands for the two main speakers. The offerings from ascend, AV123, SVS or PSB would all make nice systems. For the surrounds just go with what ever works for you. I use inceilings for my surrounds as I have no back wall or other spot for rear/side speakers.
